I had to figure out how to format the drive; the device manager saw it, but it didn't show up in "My Computer" until I got it formatted.

Enclosure is for a eSATA drive and has both USB and eSATA connections.

Sure you can purchase an external drive that comes with an enclosure, but I was unable to find one that had it's own cooling system.

Marti, I purchased the same enclosure and agree that its cooling is excellent and it's quiet.

Because the included eSATA bracket is metallurgically weak, I replaced it with the bracket that came with my Asus motherboard. eSATA works flawlessly for me.

Have you had any problems with the security of the USB connection?

I am using the eSATA connection on the front of my case (the computer I built last fall). I didn't need it for anything else, so didn't need the eSATA add-on bracket.

So far, so good. I can access it from my little home network from two other computers (and the one it's connected to).

I may get rid of the external HD that I purchased a year or so ago, and get another Antec enclosure (get rid of as in giving it away). I am always wondering if the older external HD will burn up due to no internal cooling.

Strange how some of the comments mention that the unit is LOUD & others appear to have no problems with noisy units.


The thing that bugs me, is given that the boxes are relatively large, they still require the use of a non-standard A/C adapter rather than having all that internally & using a standard P/C power cord.

No big deal I suppose if it sits in one spot all the time. But if you use it as a portable drive, it is much easier to just take the drive itself, leaving the power & usb cords there, "knowing" that where you take it to will have standard power & usb cords that you can easily plug in to.

Maybe my hard drive is quiet? All I know is that I had to touch the unit and feel it vibrating to tell it was working!

I purchased the drive to use as an additional drive for backups, not as something to take to a friend's house. I do have thumb drives for portability.
