The thing that bugs me, is given that the boxes are relatively large, they still require the use of a non-standard A/C adapter rather than having all that internally & using a standard P/C power cord.

No big deal I suppose if it sits in one spot all the time. But if you use it as a portable drive, it is much easier to just take the drive itself, leaving the power & usb cords there, "knowing" that where you take it to will have standard power & usb cords that you can easily plug in to.

Maybe my hard drive is quiet? All I know is that I had to touch the unit and feel it vibrating to tell it was working!

I purchased the drive to use as an additional drive for backups, not as something to take to a friend's house. I do have thumb drives for portability.
