I only made things worse trying to fix my Winamp problem. Now I have a msvcp71.ll error everytime I boot up. I tried downloading the file from the web, but only 32 bit versions were available. Please suggest something before I reinstall the operating system.

Thanks

can you get into Windows at all?
if you can:
if not, post back

Go HERE and download the file
in_flac.dll

then open Windows Explorer and move that file into your Winamp\Plugins
folder.
Make sure you answer yes to overwrite the in_flac.dll that is already in the folder.

Let us know if that works for you.

I went to the page that you gave me, but I could not find the file there.

Well it's right there near the top of the page.
the link is: in_flac.dll but never mind, it won't do any good now.

when you say you 'deleted' Winamp did you properly remove it from Programs and Features.
How did you delete it?

by the way, I'm assuming you are using windows Vista 64bit, is that right?

Anyway, what I would do now is make sure it is cleanly removed. If you didn't do it properly then go into program files and the registry (if you feel comfortable doing it) and make sure all of it is gone.

On second thought, never mind the registry keys, just remove the winamp folder from Program Files if it is still there.

then reboot and download the latest version of the program and install it again. that should solve the problem.

Post back if it doesn't.

I had to right-click, save-as the .dll.

Hmmm, I don't know. If I left click on it, the open with, or Save to Disk box pops up in Firefox 2

Yeah I was using IE7.

It does what you described in FF3 for me.

Thanks

I do have the 64 bit vista.
If I remember correctly, I was not able to completely remove Winamp completely.

I reinstalled Winamp. There is no change.
I noticed another problem however. My Avanst anti virus software no longer works and I cannot uninstall it.

Thanks for listening.

PS If all fails, I have all of the CDs and the Vista operating system. I hope that it does not come to this.

I tried again to uninstall Avast. I got the following message.

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

Don't think of re-installing Windows yet.

Do you have any other Anti Virus program running besides Avast by any chance?

Try the Avast Uninstall Utility found HERE

After you uninstall it that way, reinstall the Avast program.

Thanks horatio;

It worked like a charm.
I deleted Winamp again, and I am able to listen to my online radio.

Why can't I get winamp to work? It always asks for an association.

I forgot to say that the error message is gone.

Thanks Again!

You're welcome

which file type won't Winamp play?

And if you double click that file, which, if any program opens up?

If no other program opens up, then you should be able to pick 'Winamp' from a list and choose to always associate those file types with Winamp.

or, if another program opens when you click on one of those file types, then you may have to go into the options for that program and remove that association.

Not really sure what is happening, but when you install Winamp, you must always configure the install. Don't just take the defaults. Look at the choices re: file associations, and make sure it is associated with the file types you want it to play.

In this area my knowledge is extremely limited. Are you saying, for instance if I want to be able to play an audio feed with Winamp, I must associate it with a program such as internet explorer or firefox?

Thanks

It depends what kind of a file it is. I could be a real audio or quick time audio files or some other file that Winamp doesn't support.

Best thing would be to post a link to the file you want to play so someone can look at it.
