566834, Howw to remove log in name
Posted by wings515, Mon Jan-25-21 01:54 PM
Hello all,
I worked on a Dell laptop a while back upgrading from WIN 8 to WIN 10. During my time with this PC I logged into my Chewy account on this machine. Now when the owner goes to Chewy, her and my log-in name appears. I want to remove my name.

I have looked at the passwords stored under Edge and mine is not there, her's is. I tried a search of the 'C' drive for my name and it did not find it.
As an instructional issue I'd like to be able to remove my login name and password from her PC. Any thoughts?

Regards,

Are you just wanting to remove your name (like) from the Login screen?

(untested) https://www.google.com/search?q=windows+10+remove+user+login+name&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

Or are you wanting to remove your User Account from the machine altogether?

You can do that through "Family & other users" (what a convoluted morass Win10 is), I think. (I'd tell you how to get to that, but I'm not sure how other then to do that "Search" for User Accounts & then select the one that says "add, edit, or remove"... What a convoluted morass, I think someone mentioned.)

I'm not clear on the password situation, as in who has whose passwords, where - so keep that in mind.

Seem the "Users" screen (aka 'Family & other users') does not list the currently in use user account - which is stupid (but then, this is 10), but if you go to C:\Users\ that should show you each user account on the machine. Likewise if you go to Start, then that thing ? that looks like, eh, the topmost item, it will show the currently in use user, but if you click that users name, it will show other user names (above) it, that you could log in to. (Isn't that asinine!)

(I'm new to seeing Win10, & let me tell you, what an absolutely ATROCIOUS UX it is!)

If you did not "add" yourself as a User to her machine, but rather "changed" her name to yours, her name would persist (behind the scenes) & in that case, you would not see "yours".

(There is a hack for that type of situation.)

Just got back to looking at this problem, using TeamViewer to remotely log in.
Here is what I found, I confirmed there is one log in name/password for the culprit web site chewy.com on the password listing page of Edge.
I went to Accounts and there is only her account, additionally I dove down in the Registry to the Profile List and only her log-in was shown.
To recap, when she goes onto Chewy.com and wants to place an order both her and my email show up. She also has this occur on one other site when placing an order.
I did have her machine on my network while doing updates and I do also have a Chewy account.
Is it possible Chewy has my email associated with my IP address and also hers with her IP address?
One other piece of information, when I went to the password listing in Edge and tried to investigate/change her Chewy password, it would not accept the one she had written down in her paper log book. Since I could not open the 'Edit' function on the password listing, we can not determine what the stored password is.
Any thoughts on this problem?
Regards,

Today owner had an issue logging into her bank account. After much conversation with the bank help desk I suggested switching from Edge to Google. The problem went away but during the log on to the bank site both her and my email ( login name) were displayed. I never went to her bank site so how did my email appear.

Do you think clearing the Google history could remove my email. I'm thinking I might Team Viewer into her PC tomorrow and clear the history.
The bank help desk did not know the slight differences in search engines and what can happen.

This sounds like the browsers are just remembering your username. When you see the drop-down list that shows both of your usernames, the first thing you need to do is let go of the mouse. You must do the following steps with the keyboard. Use the arrow keys to highlight your username, then hold the Shift key and press Delete. That should remove your username from the list on whatever browser you are using. You will have to repeat the process for the other browser.
