218542, Happy New Year - 2026

So I fired up a mothballed computer, WinXP, AMD Athlon II X3 440, 2GB RAM.

Fire up my browser, SeaMonkey 2.49.5, & it opens, 12 separate windows, untold number of tabs. From the dates of the pages that opened (from "history"), seems the computer was last used in 2018 ;-).

Anyhow, in these tabs are my old & current haunts.
And (unlike most other pages these days) PCQ&A is plain 'ol http:, so no certificate issues on this ancient contraption, so here I am.

:-)

What a pleasure.

Now, contrast that to this Win10 PC I'd been farting around with, TRYING, to get networking working - unsuccessfully. That installs updates... who knows when. That installed updates, the other day. That installed more updates, this morning - seemingly. That when I went to turn it off, said something yet again about updates. And I'm like - what the... So I'm like... Update & turn off... Nothing. Update & restart... Nothing. Shut down... Nothing. All of the options under "Power" did... you guessed it - Nothing!

Did a hard shutdown & plugged this XP computer in in its' place.

And it boots & it runs :-).

So, in that regard, I say 2026 is off to a good start, heh.

Anyhow, Happy New Year, all.

(And wasn't the world a better place when we were all here.)

Windows 10 and 11 are both a PITA to network, with 11 being the worse. I wish there was a switch to shut off the security features I don't need. All I want is to share files between PCs, but MS says "Not So Fast".
