It has been a sad day in Buffalo today with the news of the death of Jim Kelly's son. Jim and Jill Kelly spent the last eight years raising the nations awareness of Krabbe Disease. They have campaigned non stop to bring awareness and understanding of it. Hunter was diagnosed at 3 or 4 months, and they were told he would never live to his 3rd birthday. That family has been together non stop, with Hunter the center of attention. Jill would sleep in his room every night, as he needed constant attention to make it through the night. NY Governor Pataki credited the Kelly's with making NY the first State to perform free newborn testing for the disease starting next year. He is the only athlete I have ever admired both on the field and even more so off the field with Hunter. They spent everyday together as a family, a rare thing in this day and age. Hunter could have been tossed in a care facility and left there until he died, but Jim and Jill chose to dedicate their time to Hunter and his two sisters. Jim never won the big one with the Bills, but he won more hearts of the city of Buffalo, than any Super Bowl win would ever have brought him. Jim and Jill were remarkable, and their dedication will never stop.
