"XP and USB Filter?"

anybody have any setup tips for AMD and VIA when setting up XP? I am still having problems with my video card in XP. System was stable in Win98se. Same config. Only thing that has changed is the OS. Also do I need the USB Filter, if I do where do I get it?

here is the system config. Yell at me if I forget something that would help.

Iwill KK266R running 4-26 BIOS
AMD Duron 800 Mhz. NOT OC YET!!
256 MB Crucial PC133 (2x128 MB)
IBM Deskstar 75GXP 15GB drive on Raid IDE port. not Set up as raid. only single drive
3com NIC
Onboard Sound running latest drivers from Iwill Site
Diamond MM V550 Riva TNT Running Nividia Detonator 23.11 Drivers

Computer crashes randomly, sometimes on startup sometimes after a couple of hours. I can't make it repeat consistently. This is after a clean install of XP. I have also tried with the regular XP drivers for the vid card.

Thanks for reading. Good Luck.

No filters drivers are needed in XP.

Try the 21.83 version drivers from nVidia.

Hi Mark,
Curiosity? I posted a thread about the mediocre performance of the 23.11 drivers as against the 21.83. after further testing I have decided to reinstall the 21.83. I am running Win98.
Do you have a particular reason for not running the 23.11 in Win XP?
When I downloaded the Win98 version, I also downloaded the Win XP version of 23.11 for an imminent(hopefully) installation of Xp Pro.
Would you advise against using them?
Have 1.4Ghz Athlon, with Geforce 3,

TIA

Jim

I am pretty sure I read that the 21.83 drivers are not for the TNT chipset.

Mark,
I am confused, don't you mean the 23.11 is not suitable for the TNT chipset? Sorry if I am misreading the thread.

Actually, I haven't tried the 23.11 drivers yet. But never had a problem with the 21.83 drivers so no need to change. BTW... I am using those drivers with a GeForce2 Pro and TNT2 Ultra card.

Yes but as Tommy13 said above Nvidia recommends "If you are using a TNT or TNT2 Ultra product, please download the non-WHQL driver." AKA version 21.81 in the Driver Archive page

I know I had one TNT Ultra installaed with the 21.83 and I didn't have any problem, I have changed that video card on that computer for a GeForce 2 GTS but I do not remember ever seen any problem.

Before this latest clean install I had tried all of the drivers from nvidias driver archive. Including the 21.81 set. I will try them again tonight. I get a blue screen error currently when I run the TNT card. Something about an infinite loop. I ran the card in another machine with XP it ran fine for hours with anything I threw at it, even at high res. DVDs and Games. Anyway. time to try the 21.81 drivers.
