I'm helping a friend upgrade his computer..His old processor burned up,,he didn't notice the fan was not working..(it was a k6-2 450)So he wants a new mother board and processor. Its going to be a Duron 850, and MSI 6340. I found the motherboard bundle at TCWO for 139.00. So what I'd like to know is if his present power supply will be okay. Its an ATX 250 watt..He has an external modem and a cd burner. Im hoping that this will work, because he really can't spend much more on it..Thanks
300 watt is pretty much considered the minimum these days. They can be had for around $30 US. The 250 watt will undoubtedly work for him, assuming he isn't running a Geforce3 graphics card or anythng power hungry like that.
Thanks for the response guys Would a Celeron work with his power suppy? He's not interested in speed as much as getting his computer back in working order.

Thanks for the links!! Now the only thing I'm worried about is gettin that Duron installed safe and sound. Poor man has had such bad luck with computers..I'd like to see him with a good one for a change...
