"Change default save folders"

While using IE 5.5 and saving a graphic and choosing "Save Picture As..", the default folder to save in is C:My Documents\Pictures.

Is there a way to change it to my choice, say something like C:\mystuff?

You can save it to a folder of your own, by making a folder in My Documents - right click in My Documents>menu pops up..."new">'folder'...click on folder, it will be highlighted, just name it Graphics or whatever. Then you can put all of your graphics into it.

Hope this helps.

pako,

If you visit many newsgroups that discuss Windows issues, one of the most frequent tweaks that is sought by users is a way to escape one or more of Windows uses of the "My Documents" folder. People want to hide it, rename it, destroy it, change to some other folder as the default Save location; anything but use it the way Microsoft intended.

Let me suggest this. Either use the pictures subfolder as it is set up or follow Lonnie's suggestion to create new subfolders (although I think I'd make new subfolders of the Pictures folder, not "My Documents"). Now, if you want quicker access to that folder from someplace like the desktop, create a shortcut to the folder in that other location. Because it is a shortcut and not the actual folder, you can change the icon easily and you can name it anything you want. This means you don't fight Windows default behavior when you save a picture and it still gives you the quick access you want to those pictures. I have over 30 folders and subfolders in "My Documents" and desktop shortcuts to half a dozen of the most important. I've yet to find an approach that works better or is more easily accomplished.

Thanks folks.

The only reason I didn't want it as a subfloder in the My Documents folder is I save my documents folder to CD periodically and really dont want to save a bunch of other stuff with it.

I know there is a way to do it without saving the other stuff but just kinda lazy I guess.

Some programs will just default to the last folder saved in... looks like ole bill could fix his stuff to do that.

Bill hasn't delegated that kind of stuff to his 'workers' yet, and I guess the 'workers' don't want to make our lives easier at all, so that's why we have this forum...hahaha.

Any data from my folders in MY DOCS that I want to really save (the dreaded clean re-install...LOL), can fit into several floppies. I have a cd-rw, but have never used it for d/l to a cd of my data.

Thanks Steve...appreciate the extra input. I have 3 different folders in my own MY DOCS section - none of which are the 'set' folders that comes with the OS (have no use for those at all). These have 'sub' folders according to topic, etc. I don't have shortcuts to the desktop for these - not needed, since I only use the folders a few times at best.
