"New System Startup-"Verifying DMI Pool Data..." Problem"

I'm building a new system and can't get beyond
"Verifying DMI Pool Data...."
on initial startup.I've got a:
ECS K7VZA Socket 462 Mobo
AMD Duron 700 CPU
128 PC133 Ram
Nvidia Detonator 3 Video
Maxtor 20Gb 7200 HDD
Lite-On 16X DVD-ROM
Standard 1.44 Floppy Drive
The BIOS is configured with the default settings that seem to match my components.
Microsoft KB says "Contact Manufacture"
I've heard of this problem before but never encountered it.
I know one of you experts will have a solution for me as you always come through.
All components are brand new.
Thanks,
Pete

Try resetting the configuration data in the bios setup. Any computer i've seen that displays messages about DMI pooled data has had a setting to reset "configuration data" (instead of having the clear the whole CMOS). It may be two separate things... DMI and ESCD... you may have to toggle the setting to "both" when you enable resetting of configuration data. Depends on the motherboard's bios though, as to what you're going to find for settings. (so I can't tell you exactly where to go... just look through all the settings menus)

I worked on a system last week where I had to reset both, to get it to boot even with a startup disk. It was hanging on verifying DMI pool data.

:'(
Let me try these one at a time.
Mr. G:
The only place I've got control over ESCD is in the PnP/PCI Config. where I can set the Resources Controlled by "Auto(ESCD)" or "Manual".
I also have "Reset Configuration Data" diabled. I tried changing both settings with no luck.
I've also tried F6, *Fail-Safe Defaults", same thing.
Tried disabling L1 and L2 cache and same thing.
Already had the Maxtor site and don't quite understand the first step. I know the 2nd doesn't work.

Last time I had that DMI problem it was the soundcard causing a resources conflict.
Do you have any soundcard or modem etc. you can remove and see if that clears the problem?

Did you enable "Reset Configuration Data" and then reboot?

NytOwl,
I enabled the reset config, rebooted, got a succrssful updated ESCD, rebooted and still the same.
I also get "Floppy Disk Fail (40) each time I bootup and have to move on with F1. If that means anything.
I've been at this 8 hours now and have to get some sleep. If you can think of any other help, please post it and I'll pick it up in yhe AM.
This is the first system I've built from scratch with all new components and I need any help I can get.
Thanks for taking the time.
Pete

Check your floppy drive ribbon cable to be sure it's installed with the red edge to pin 1 at the drive and MBrd.

NytOwl

Edit:

You do know the floppy drive has to be connected to the cable end that has the twist section in the ribbon, right?

Yes, on the IDE cable. Last thing I did last nite was swap out the drive with an another and it works. Bum floppy drive. Wish that solved my original problem.
Thanks,
Pete

Ok try this one...

Remove all ribbon cables to all devices & turn on the system, you will have to press F1 again to continue ... it should "verify" ok.

If it does then I would check out your HD

OK, Progress!!
By disableing the HD, (Disconnecting the Power cable), I now get past "Verifying DMI....." and get "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER."
1. Does this mean I have a problem with the new HD?
2.What System Disk?

Sorry to say but yes it seems to be the HD. If you can check it out in another system as a slave, it may help to find out what the problem is.

"DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER."
What System Disk?
... well, you disconnected it.

Have you got a "boot" disk, a windows 98 boot disk?

This "tool" from Maxtor may help ...
http://www.maxtor.com/products/DiamondMax/software/maxblast/default.htm
... D/L it and unpack it to a Floppy, re-attach your HD and with the maxblast disk in your floppy drive re-start your computer.
It has some nice diagnostic tools for HDs.

Hope that helps

I have a question. It may sound obvious but did you check to be certain the jumpers are set correctly? Also what ide channel is the dvd on and is it jumpered correctly? Did you try starting up with it(dvd)disconnected?
just wondering

Thanks to all of you.
Recap: Theonly way the system would bootup was to disable L1 and L2 Cache. Also, had a bad floppy drive. After I installed Windows, reset BIOS defaults and the machine runs beautiful.
Thanks to all you 911ers who helped with this thread.
Pete
