"Labeling CD's - With a Felt Marker?"

Just wondered what the best way is to casually label a CD. I've received CD's that seemed to have been labeled with a regular marker, but inside the jacket it shows an icon of using a felt marker superimposed with a big 'X' (in other words, don't do that). Thanks,

Generally considered a no-no, some inks might react with various layers of the CD and damage it! Someone posted an excellant link a couple of weeks back that would explain that about CDR quality, and what makes up a disk. Can't find it right now.

They have felt tip markers designed for that, get them at a office supply, or wal-mart. Less than $2.00 And they last a long time. Well depending on how much you write on each CD that is.

I have always used a fine point permanent marker made by Sanford called a Sharpie. Works well and doesn't look like crayon

Yes, the ultra fine is the one I use, I should have made that more clear.

Since the ink is gravity fed, it's a miracle they work down there.

Jeeze, I use a nasty big fat solvent smelly permanent marker. It's never penetrated any layers and ruined a CD (dries in seconds). I'm careful with it though, I don't apply too much of the ink.

True, but anything I write on a CD is just to identify what CD it is (mostly for me). Like "F-prot Dec. 13 defs" or "IE6 All Windows". More descriptive information I write on the jewel case insert.

The only reason I use that marker is... because it's the one I have
