update to situation described below..(humm...just changed monitors and all is ok now. does that mean the other monitor is bad)
i'm doing a clean install of w98 on my old p133 and all goes good until during the last reboot when windows is updating sys settings,it gets to "setting up personalized setting for ie4.0" and hangs there. i've rebooted several times with same results.
don't know if they're related but i also get a message that "there is a problem with my display settings. the adapter type is incorrect or the current settings do not work with your hardware". i'm able to startup in safemode but cannot make any changes to setttings. during normal startup (before getting to the point where it hangs up with ie4.0, i get the message saying my adapter settings are wrong and i make changes and then after rebooting my screen goes nuts (wavey lines, etc and i can't see what's on the screen). if i reboot to safemode and click on "apply" in adapter settings and reboot i get back to normal setup with message above relating to problem with my display settings and hangup on ie4.0. how can this be solved? thank you,
Go into safe mode and put a standard disply driver in place and reboot into normal mode and let the system finish it's install then change the adapter to the proper one and use the correct driver.
