"Password problem."

My grandson has an HP 8556 C desktop with Win XP home that he had not used for awhile. He fired it up today and it asked for his password.Even with his hint phrase he still can't recall it.How can we get around the problem and get rid of the forgotten password? He has NO idea what it was. I told him that some gal or guy on this site would know the answer.TIA !

Remove the battery on the motherboard for a few minutes. Then replace it and go into setup and set all pages to default.

I hate the thought of doing this. The small case has so many ribbon cables etc that I can barely see the MB.If that is the only way ,I will try in the AM when I can move it to a bench and remove any static from this old body. Thanks Lou ![
