Open My Computer > Click Tools > Folder Options > Click On the View Tab at the top > Tick "Show Hidden Files and Folders" > Click Apply > Click OK

Then navigate to here:

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft

In that folder you should see a Wallpaper1 file. This is your wallpaper.

When I go to Control Panel/Display/Display Properties/Desktop, I get my current wallpaper as the visual and last on a list of the stock ones that are available. It is named Easyshare Wallpaper. The name comes from the fact that it was an unnamed kodak picture when I made it my wallpaper. No way I could find to print it from there.Any suggestions?

Search the registry for "Easyshare Wallpaper", maybe you'll find a file name or url.

I tried just a regular search for for the file "easyshare wallpaper"
And the file was found.Of course it was in one of my photo collections.
I am hoping I can find the name of his by going to his display and find the name for his and searching all his computer.I emailed him before replying to this and he has a problem finding even the display.I emailed my daughter and she will stop over at his place in a couple of weeks to help.He is stubborn and, as I said, afraid of his computer so it may take some doing. In any event I will keep you posted.
I may use this as an excuse(not that I really need one) for an early visit to my daughter and 2 grandaughters in Carson City.

The picture is probably just a .jpg or .bmp. It can be stored most anywhere on the computer. I have some wallpaper pictures in a folder in my pictures file and have even stored them in my documents. When you change your desktop there is a browse button that lets you search for the picture. If it is on his desktop it is somewhere on his hard drive. He just has to find it and then he can print it.

Thanks Les.Mine was in a coral print house file.He has a habit of deleteing many things if he can't figure them out.Last time I was there he had a website full of pictures that relatives in Hawaii had sent him .He said he could not figure how to open it and asked me to delete it .I opened it instead, and set it up as a slideshow. He and his wife were thrilled.I showed him how to print them and he was busy doing so.He's a nice guy and a few years younger than I but is short on patience with any thing that he is the least bit hazy on.I have only known him for a few years but we have become friends. Most of my friends ,in my age class have gone from this earth, but I have aquired many younger ones.I have tried to get him to join here but he refuses.Too bad because he, like I did, could find a great second family here. When,if he can't do it for himself, I print his picture for him ,I will tell him PCQandA did it

Look in the following directory.

C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper

There is also a program called print screen. If he can hide the ICONS on the desktop, he can print the wallpaper picture.

Thanks Ed,I had him try that before I asked here but he says it did not work.I have copied my desktop that way but he says he can't make it happen.I suspect it will still be a problem until I visit my daughter and head over to his place. In the meantime I will try all on my machine until I find something that works .Hi has a windows XP machine that was used by a relative for a business and he thinks it may have been "altered for the business".Thanks for all the suggestions .I will keep testing and hope that what works here will work there,

Use this small program to quickly hide all the icons, then press the "Prt Scr" button to print your screen.

Then use Paint to save it.

There's no need to install rubbish freeware for a simple task like that. All you have to do is right click on the desktop, and choose the menu option where you can hide the Desktop Icons. The last thing I want cluttering up my hard drive is some silly proggie when XP already has such a feature.

Good point! Some little things are so easily overlooked!

The program has been highly regarded here in the past by many users which is why I recommended it.

It's not a program Ed. All you have to do is just hit the Prt Scr on your keyboard to capture the desktop image. You'll have to paste into MS Paint or something similar to actually print the image. Please check your inbox Ed - I sent you a PM earlier.

Thanks, Chewy, got your email. Thank you very much. I used to have a program called Print Screen put out by JASC (I think). I used it in Win98 and Win2K. Since XP is new to me, I didn't realize it already had this option. Don't know why I waited so long to go to XP, I like it. I'm still waiting on VISTA though, as it will take some hardware upgrades to take advanted of AERO.

Have him check this key in the Windows Registry:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Themes\LastTheme

In there, the value, Wallpaper should contain the name/location of his wallpaper.

Or, from a command line, you could use this command:
C:\> REG QUERY HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Themes\LastTheme
which should return something like this:
! REG.EXE VERSION 3.0

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Themes\LastTheme
Wallpaper REG_EXPAND_SZ %SystemDrive%\My Documents\Moon_Hypersaturated.jpg

ThemeFile REG_EXPAND_SZ
DisplayName of Modified REG_SZ Modified Theme

In my case, it is the %SystemDrive%\My Documents\Moon_Hypersaturated.jpg, that points to the wallpaper being used.

My daughter was down in our City on business and stopped in to visit us for an hour .I told her about my friend and his desire to print the picture on his desktop. She said she wouls stop at his place when she went back home.
She called me today and he now has his picture. here's how it went:
Right clicked on desk top and set to hide icons
Press "print screen"key
Open "paint" and click "paste"
Then click "print"(Can edit if you need or want before printing)
He is a happy guy and says he will ask before hitting "delete" from now on. Thanks to all here !

I have recommended this site to many people .Most love it and have thanked me for doing so.I showed this guy what it looked like and he said it was OK but that "he could not understand most of it"
I told him he would if he started reading it.He is still afraid(my word) of his computer. It was a major discovery for him when I showed him how to bookmark a site. When I visited him a couple of weeks after that, it was his only "bookmark" .He explained that he thought he might mess up his computer if he did more.He ,for the most part, just does basic Email.I was surprised when he wanted to print his Wallpaper. He is a real nice guy but the computer is not his cup of tea.

Well, at least he knows where to go if he ever needs help again. Shouldn't be hard to find the bookmark. I got my son interested in this site when he asked me for help and I didn't know the answer, I told him to post the question here and see what kind of responses he got. That's all it took in his case, although he already had a fair understanding of the computer. After his visits here he became very knowledgeable, built his own computers and I now go to him for help at times.
