"New windows udate"

Just installed update: "Feature update to Windows 10, version 20H2"
and it changed my desktop icon colors. How do I restore the original setting? Not a big deal but I was used to the previous color scheme.

Are you sure it's the icons that changed color and not the taskbar and the start menu? I've see recent major updates change the Windows theme to the Light color scheme for taskbar and start menu.

You can change this by right-clicking on an empty spot on the Desktop, then from the menu choose Personalize.

In the windows that comes up click on Themes in the left panel. Scroll down to where it says Change theme, below this you should see some choices. The one labelled Windows is the original with the black taskbar and Start menu. The one labelled Windows (light) has a lighter colored taskbar and Start menu.

If this isn't what you are posting about, maybe you can use the Snipping Tool to capture a portion of your desktop so we can see what you are talking about.

Thanks for the response. Following your directions, when I click on "Change Theme". nothing happens.
I'll try to post an image of what I was referring to.
Here are the icons as recolored; they have changed to gray.

Edit: I did find the themes you mentioned, but I have a custom theme that I wish to keep.

All in all, I can live with the changes.

I don't know if this will help (https://www.windowscentral.com/how-customize-your-start-menu-windows-10) They made some fairly sweeping changes. This caught my eye because it was put up about 11 hours ago.

Thanks for the response, Roger. At this point I'm not going to mess with the Start menu options, as my ineptness could cause more problems than I can handle.

FWIW: I bookmarked the page you posted and sometime when I'm bored, I might play with it a bit.

If it will let you do it at all you will be able to add solid color backgrounds or icons. I have an idea it will be fixed in another update so you have some control of what it looks like. This stirred up a bit of a hornets nest. I am guessing this was done this way because it affected more platforms than Windows. It hasn't affected me because I use the Start10 menu. It makes it much easier to navigate the computer, I have a desktop not a tablet (I have them too, you know what I mean).

Bobbo, Check out this freebie from Source Forge. I've been using and recommending "PsySol Fan Club Edition" since the XP days. It's Open Source solitaire 1,000 games and Mah Jong. You'll be quite happy with it.

For what its worth, I've kind of gotten used to the start menu icons, and almost like them.
