"Mouse trap"

I am using a PS2 type mouse. If I leave my computer on overnight the mouse gets slow and jumpy the next morning. It seems to lag and it is difficult to get the pointer where I want it to be. This will sometimes also happen if I have the computer on all day and its later in the day. Some mornings however, after I leave the computer on all night, the mouse works perfectly. I have tried several different meeses and I know it's not the mouse itself. Any ideas?
