"Firefox updated"
Fri Jun-21-19 05:12 AM by bobbo

When I opened Firefox today, it updated itself to a version that I no longer recognize and I hate it so far. I'd like to revert to the previous version that is familiar to me. How to do this?

Modest success: I tried refresh, and it worked to a degree, not totally the same but similar.

Edit: After some fairly extensive effort, I think I've got it back to where it was. Hope it sticks.

I have but seldom use Firefox. Earlier today I installed the current update/version just to see if I could see what you are talking about.

I do not see any difference between the "old" and the "new" - though I don't use many add-ins.

So, what is it about the new version that's so "repugnant" to you?

And what was necessary to return it to a semblance of your old Firefox?

Jim.

I have been updating mine all along and couldn't tell if there has been any changes, except it is a lot faster and more secure. You shouldn't be stuck in the past with a primary access to the internet, bad things follow. Check about:addons (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/extensions-private-browsing?as=u&utm_source=inproduct)

Jim, basically it changed the whole layout that I was familiar with. This old dog doesn't want to learn new tricks.

It happened again. All my favorite links have been replaced with a FireFox search engine. It's 1:30 AM. I'll give up for now and try to restore the version I'm used to.

Edit: OOPS; The the favorite sites that used to be displayed as icons was replaced with a list of those on a pull down menu accessed by a hidden down arrow on the address bar. Missed that the first time around. I'm too embarrassed to reveal the machinations I exhausted to find that out.

Use ctrl+b to bring back the Bookmark menu . Most of the sites I had exported earlier show up under a file From Internet Explorer. Newly bookmarked sites go under Other Bookmarks unless you change it when you save it. Instead of going back to another version, save your favorites folder and you can put it in your current favorites folder if you ever have trouble again.

Thanks, Roger. I'm finding my way around now.

Edit: The pull down memo dropped all the sites I thought it was saving. I would sure like to return to the page with icons of my favorite sites. Any idea on how to do that?

Edit: Found it, had to set FireFox as my home page. Still learning; it just takes a little more effort.

FWIW I was a devoted Firefox user for years, not to mention an addons junkie. Switched to Opera a year or so ago and have never regretted it.

Thanks for your input, Paul. Fire Fox is what I'm used to, but I will take a look at Opera. Fire Fox has improved and is faster than it used to be. What is it that impresses you about Opera?

Hello,

This is my very first post here.

I've been using Firefox since its very first releases.

Last year, I had switched to Firefox ESR channel, it's a more stable channel, and it doesn't get updates as often as the mainstream one.

The ESR version is designed for business, with stricter update policies.

Anyway, if you're interested, you can get the ESR version here:
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/

or, simple google for "firefox esr"
