"Jumping Icons"
Mon Dec-17-01 09:10 PM

Brother in law called this mornig with new problem. Desktop icons seem to jump away from the mouse on the desktop. I haven't heard of this one before. Nor am I sure that what he said is really what is happening 'till I get over there this afternoon to look at it.
Thought I'd post though this morning in case this rings a bell with anyone. Win98se

John,

The W32.Magistr.24876@mm is one possible reason. Other reasons can be be old mouse drivers, or old video drivers, or ...

if his pc is recovered, is the virus still there?/

& wad does this means ?? If the computer has been infected for three months, then the infected file is deleted.

does this means the virus is deleted after 3months?

I would virus scan with some other av and see if it finds anything. after 3 months it deletes the file does not mean its gone.I think It means it deleted the original file not the ones it infected or is about to infect.read the info at the link.try having it looked at on line at housecalls..

Trend Micro has separate tools for the variants (more recent variant has more steps for removal).

I'd have him run a Free on-line housecall virus scan from the link below.

Could someone be playing a trick on him? This site -http://www.rjlsoftware.com/software/entertainment/ - has a good number of freeware downloads that will brighten the day of every office joker. One even causes the Start button to avoid the cursor, which is at least similar to what he is experiencing. I don't see anything listed for the exact problem but if the Start button can be made to avoid the cursor, so could icons, I presume.

Jim.
