"freshdownload-resume not supported"

Well I am downloading dragonlinux for the 2nd time, (I thought I'd better since the 1st round got goofed up), and since it is 283 megs, I am concerned that the freshdownload d/l box states that it is not resume supported. The first time it was resume supported, but not now.
Since this d/l is being done on dial-up(it took about 18 or 19 hours the first time)I'm worried that it will stop half way through. I emailed "fresh" support last night, but of course I probably won't hear from them till at least monday. It the event it stops does anyone now how to set it to support resume?
Thanks,\

That size DL on a dial up is very risky. Perhaps you can get someone with a broadband connection and a CD burner to DL it?

Thanks for the suggestion Shelly, but I don't know anyone that could help me with this down here.

Do you still have the original zip file? Chances are there's nothing wrong with it, if you got it to unzip. Zip files have built in CRC (cyclic redundancy check) error checking code.

Open the file with Winzip or Power Archiver and from the Actions menu (I think... just look through the menus if that's not where it is) test the archive. If it tells you "no errors were encountered in the compressed data" then your zip file is fine. Note that this isn't even necessary, because both of those programs I mentioned check the CRC on opening the zip archive.

Now, as for not being able to resume a broken download, I'm assuming you're using some sort of download manager that adds that functionality. I cannot advise.

When downloading something big, it is best to connect with an ftp client where servers and clients use a reliable resume mechanism. This being a sourceforge thing, there is most certainly an ftp mirror you can download dragonlinux from. You can read about ftp here...

As I stated I am using freshdownload in which it usually has resume support, but this time it states resume not supported. That is the reason I started using freshdownload, for the resume support. The first time I d/l dragon I did indeed have to use that facility. The reason I am downloading again is because I inadvertently unzipped it to a windows file instead of extracting to C:\dragon. I have since deleted everything. Now I am trying to start over with a clean d/l.

I used Freshdownload for a while but liked DAP much better and switched back. That "resume not supported" message is most likely referring to the server you're downloading from. I'd look for another source. I'm pretty sure that would solve that problem, as some servers either don't have resume support, or are unreliable with it like Grogan said. Here's an easy way to download a big file like that - set it to download all night for a few nights in a row (however many it takes). It's much easier if it's using bandwidth (especially if set to simultaniously download multiple chunks) when you're not, like when you're asleep. It works for me, on 56K (really 45K).

Thanks for the reply Zema. I downloaded the FTP program Grogan suggested and if I can get it setup I shouldn't have any probs as it will be resume supported.

I downloaded ftp1.html, but I am unable to understand how to work with it, i.e. how to configure it to download what I need from where to download it. I'm back to using freshdownload to get dragonlinux with resume supported.

OK, here is a very good ftp mirror to get things from.

Connect to ibiblio.org (yes, when you connect to that host with an ftp client, you'll connect to their ftp server)

Once you get connected, in the right pane of your ftp client, double click the pub directory. Within the pub directory, double click Linux, then distributions... and so on. Just as if you are opening folders in Windows explorer until you get to the following path.

ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/dragonlinux/dragonlinux-2.1.0

Download your chosen file from that directory. (e.g. dragonlinux-2.1.0.full.zip)

Make sure that your ftp client is set to Binary for the transfer (should be by default)

Where do I put the address in the ftp client? I put it in the host add. line of the sessions property box and nothing. I put it in at the top of the right pane and nothing. I'm sure this is exasperating for you, but its twice as much so for me.
Thanks for bearing with me.
