Are any of you appliance repair people?
My friend has a Admiral dryer (220 elec.) that just up and died the other day. I have done a little online research, and checked a few things suggested.
I checked the thermal fuse with the Ohm meter, I checked the doorswitch, (only way I knew how to do this was disconnect both wires from the switch and touch them together)and I checked the 220 socket and fuses. Anything else I can check on my own? Any other suggestions?

"Just up and died!".....

Since I am in the midst of a dryer problem, I would ask just what the failing signs are: e.g. drum doesn't start and turn, drum starts and turns but doesn't heat, drum starts and turns but only under light load, etc. etc. "Just up and died" sounds to me like there is no power......can you give us a little more info please?

Could be a limiting switch, or an overload reset on the motor, but you have to open the appliance to get to those. Sorry not to be of more help.

Let's say up front that the motor turns the drum but there is no heat, This is something that happened to me. The heat coils can break in the heating unit. That's Nichrome wire all coiled around in a replaceable unit.

It's not likly the motor ...AND...heat coil will fail both at the same time.

There are limit switches that fail or the power coming into the dryer can fail, but you've checked that.

You can try shorting across the incoming limit switch momentarily to see if it will start and heat... Those are easy to change.

The heat unit can be easily replaced.

If the belt that turns the drum breaks and the drum motor runs the heat limit switch will open 'cause the heat doesn't get carried away by the wet laundry tumbling around in there.

I replaced the belt, fan, and rollers last December, the person who owns this says it was in the midst of operation, said it smelled hot to her and next thing she knew it had quit, like the breaker had tripped....best info I can give.

Not afraid to open up the appliance, have down that plenty of times so far..one other suggestion was to check the terminal block where the cord was attached. I looked at it and could see no visible problems, but knew no other check for that.
