Sounds like the shooter made some mistakes this time. It could be the turning point. He bumped some other cars fleeing the scene. This may yield some paint samples from the vehicle, and even a visual ID.
As far as news coverage, do you expect repeat murders by this shooter to go unreported? You can't be that naive!
No sir, not go unreported, but certainly the situation could be "de-sensationalized". Do we really need Geraldo in there? You know the first thing this creep does is go home and watch CNN.
I don't think anyone expects that the media could or would keep silent about the killings when they occur. It's the "leaking" confidential information that the police feel is important to solving the case that is the problem.
It is clear that the sniper, as in similar cases in the past, thrives on the impact that his actions make to the public. Ironically, experts speculate that if the media stopped paying attention to him he would be more likely to kill to restore that attention. But again, there is a big difference between reporting publicly released information and digging up confidential information and reporting that.
I heard it on a report on NPR when I went to lunch today. The shooter is an obvious sociopath, and killing to him is just a pastime provoking no sense of guilt.
The only leaks of sensitive information had the police themselves as the source, according to police chief Moose.
I don't think Geraldo is needed anywhere. He is a pimple on the ass of journalism.
Shelly, I think its possible that you are wrong here. The 13 year child was shot in the stomach, while most of the others were head or chest shots. Now, assuming the shooter intended to make that particular shot, that would seem to indicate some level of guilt or pity for his victim (a small level, doesn't mean the guy isn't a grade-A fruitcake). Geraldo has become the punchline in every joke about the media, but I remember when he became famous for what was considered to be "tough and honest journalism" back in the day... kind of sad.
