When I first signed up to UD my Device rating changed almost daily.This was the sign up I abandoned when it wouldn't function . Now I have one that most of the time is 84.For a couple of days recently it read 102.Nothing has been added or deleted on my machine.What could cause this ?.No big deal but I am courious.Thank you,
When the UD agent turns in the results of a work unit it does an analysis of the throughput speed between your computer and the UD servers. This analysis is what determines your Network score. It will vary some depending on the condition of the Internet at the time.
But, if your computer happens to be offline when the UD agent tries to turn in a work unit it can not analyse your connection throughput because the connection is not there.
In this situation the UD agent defaults to a Network score of 100.
If your normal network score is less than 100 then the default Network score of 100 will raise your overall score. I have seen a difference of 18 points in the overall score on my computer.
If your normal network score is more than 100 then the default Network score of 100 will lower your overall score.

Another variable would be Processor Performance. Mine varies from 128 to 143 and seems to be based on what programs or TSRs are open while UD is taking its 'snapshot' of my system. If I close down virus scan & firewall (and never run Excel!) while sending WUs, this score goes up. Slightly, and my purpose is not really to maximize points but to turn in results. To attempt to push points up in these ways is ultimatly wasting time. Read other posts on HD space allocated. This rating has a larger effect on overall score.
The individual Processor, Memory, Storage, and Network scores are weighted and then combined to obtain the Overall score. The overall score on my computer right now is 57.
Here's an example of how it works. ----------------------------- The individual scores on my PII350 are:
----------------------------- What I have done below is multiply each individual score by its weight and add all the weighted scores to get the overall score.
processor= 29 x .40= 11.60 memory= 100 x .25= 25.00 storage= 196 x .05= 9.80 network= 37 x .30= 11.10 overall 57.50
That's pretty close. There may be some rounding off that makes the 1/2 point difference.
This worked for my computer. I can't guarantee it will work for yours. Pics below. -----------------------------
From this you can see that increases in individual scores do not affect the overall score the same. A one point increase in your processor score is worth the same as an eight point increase in your storage score. -----------------------------
Thank you .It makes sense to me now.I really appreciate the detailed answer from you Dubber.I am always amazed by how helpful you guys are,and the patience you show with my questions.Thanks again.
It was also explained that UD work units all have different characteristics and requirements so your points ratings will vary dependent on what specific resources the particular work unit you currently have is needing the most.
