"OT Do moonroofs still leak"

I am looking at new cars.Any that are equipped with what I want include a moonroof. When moonroofs first came out I had a car with one.(They called the sunroofs then.)They should have called them rainroofs. The one I had and the one a friend had (different car companies) started leaking at the end of the first year.Patching helped a little but eventually the leaks came again.I hope they have improved the gaskets these days.PC911 gang knows everything so what's the scoop on moonroofs these days???

here in salty florida they leak like a siv....we fix plenty of them here...usually the problem starts because the drain channels get clogged up and get ignored...the excess water then rusts the panel edges where the rubber doesnt dry out(from the inside out).depending on the model and owner maintenance habits...

I am in California now(35 miles from the ocean) and most rain comes in the winter months.I was in the Hudson valley in New York when I had the one before.I spent a few months in Florida training for beach landings and slogging through swamps in the 40s.This was on the pan handle and I said I would never go back.I have visited since and enjoyed my visit but given a choice full time there would not be it .Innsbrooke is a geat resort however. Thanks for the input. My conditions are a lot different .Perhaps I should have stated my location before.

I have (or should say she who controlls the pc budget) a 1996 Buick Riviera with moonroof that has never allowed a drop of moisture into the interior.

This is kinda off topic... but does anyone know the difference between a sunroof and a moonroof? I got a huge debate over this with several people, so can someone please clear this up?
Thanks!

I may be wrong but I think a moon roof is motorized and you have the option of just sliding open the solid panel leaving the window visable. Then you can open the window to let the air in if you choose. I think a sunroof is a glass panel only that you manually pop up and slide open.

Sunroof is a metal panel; moonroof is a glass one.

I have had five cars with moonroof, all Japanese cars of vrs. kinds, and none of then have leaked; up to 90,000 miles on the latest/

Yes, Come to think of it my sunroof was metal and manually operated.Of course damn near anything was then. My wife says we need a new car so that means I will get one.I'm trying to feel important by making the big decisions like a moonroof.I almost got to choose the color but that would have given me too much responsibility.I've only got 184,000 miles on my Honda Accord and it runs great and still has good paint.I was able to stall this long by telling the wife about how dangerous airbags were for short people who wear glasses. She read somewhere that Hondas were adjusted better and didn't hit as hard but were still effective. The new car will even have side airbags.I guess going on the net and looking for airbag horror stories won't work.SOOoooo thanks for the imfo.As usual if you want to know ask the PC911 gang

Ditto: It's a moonroof if you can see thru it.

Almost ditto: 3 Japanese cars since 1990 (1 sunroof, 2 moonroofs) never leaked a single drop.

Edit: Any guesses what my current car is?
