"OT.Here we go again in FLA."

I can see it now surely there will be riots and demands for recounts .Maybe the supreme court will have to roll the dice again.Reno loses to a democrat with half the name recognition and it will be claimed it is because the new machines were so technical that the same voters who couldnt punchs hole in cards surely could not be expected to know how to use them Even those people responsible for opening the polls and turning them on couldn't do it. Reno had to wait at her polling place to open and then to get the voting machines turned on.If they had the new machines when Gore and Bush ran we would still be wiating to get a president.
What the hell ,lets blame it on Jeb .He sabotaged things.ANd he is a damned oil loving, enviroment hating, big business loving, and probable wife beating REPUBLICAN. Help them Shelly they need it.

Shelly has just finished a totally new method for Florida voters...Everyone will be issued a pencil as they enter the polling place and will be directed to place a check mark opposite the name of the person they want to vote for.

This has proven to be a masterful stroke in the evolution of voting technology....the one big failure to this has been the retrieval of the pencils upon leaving and since Florida has not been able to supply enough pencils...........

Hi Old Dude,The TV networks are looking for "hillbillies" in West Virginia to put into a mansion for reality TV.Maybe they should look in Florida. They not only can't punch holes in cards but it appears they can't even figure out what finger to use on a touch screen voting machine.I'm afraid that even Shelly would not be able to help them.

Perhaps one should consider the big picture. Could it be possible that Floridians are, in fact, not quite as intellectually challenged as (perhaps) the "Political Machine" would prefer to portray?

Don't discount the fact that we have the Presidents brother in the Governors office....and other politicians who would prefer to be there instead.

Consider the FACT that these issues occur in EVERY state...on every election. Ask yourself WHY these issues are inherent to the State of Florida and leave yourself with an open mind of just how politics in our country REALLY operates.

West Virginia....Your statement leads one to consider a certain lack of self esteem in regard to your home state. In the south, we have a certain pride in our home-land. And no one can take that away....Be proud of HOME and respect others for the same

While Mr. Doh is trying to start a war with Iraq, Mrs. Doh is trying to save the little babies from reality, it turns out Gov Doh in Florida is too busy getting Niece Doh into rehab to be effective as a leader.

Maybe next time they will not be close enough to cheat.

Whatever else, it did not happen on Bill's watch. Now Bill is not altogether a womanizer, unless he tapped Janet Reno. He can commit all the adultery he wants too. What he does on his personal time is his business and the only reason he was caught was also personal.

Wish the real boss would run (Hillary) and get the Doh's away from the buttons because they really do not know which ones to push.

Florida IS God's waiting room. Before most of it's residents get where they'll spend eternity...dementia and Alzheimer's makes life interesting for all. Nobody on this Forum has older relatives living here? Yeah right!!! You're making fun of your own relatives just like I do when I'm forced to drive behind them at 30 in a 55 mph zone with their blinker ALWAYS on.
I went to the polls yesterday and things moved quickly and without ANY problems...Pasco County for the record

I'm my oldest relative, I drive 30 miles per hour under all conditions and run with the hazard lights blinking. I constantly blink my headlights from high beam to low beam to make sure no one runs in to me.
I hooked up one of those backup beepers you can get for trucks that beeps constantly either forward or reverse.

I like driving on the freeway......

Having spent a considerable amount of time in California, I chose Florida as the place where I would like to cast my final votes. I did cast one of them today...in Volusia County. Took about 90 seconds and the whole procedure was flawless.

What was that old adage...something about casting the first stone??

Trouble is you people in the less politically adept states don't understand the fine art of elections. In Florida, it's expected that the party in power will rig elections in their favor. We, the voters expect this, and award points to the politicians on how innovative they are in pulling this off.

This year was a challenge because they installed all these newfangled voting machines to make chicanery more difficult. Ole' Jeb rose to the occasion in fine fashion, The machines in one county were preprogrammed to only count Republican votes! He almost pulled it off too. Nobody even suspected it until some smartass poll worker noticed that everyone in the entire county had voted Republican and raised a stink about it. Now they have to recount the votes by hand. We awarded 6 points out of 10 to Jeb for that one...really innovative!

In several counties they handed republican ballots out to the Democratic voters, most didn't notice that the people they were voting for didn't have familiar names, those few that did were given the correct ballot...That was good for 8 points for Jeb.

The way things are shaping up, Jeb may wind up with a bigger point total than he had in 2000! What a guy...

The governor isn't in charge of the voting machines or the way they are set up. The election officials in the counties have sole responsibly in this. The election officials in the Florida counties that were having the most problems with voting are Democrats. This was true during the Presidential race as it was with today's.

Just because you have the right to vote doesn't mean that you should exercise it. We should, for the sake of the country, demand some personal accountability when it comes to voting. If you are unable to figure out "how" to vote then you obvioulsly can't be trusted to make an intellegent decision as to who to vote for. Democrats know that those who extend a hand out to the government for something to be put in it are more likely to vote democrat. These people do not make decisions on who is best qualified to lead the nation, but rather who is most likely to give them something. Democrats have been buying votes for years using this technique.

This is the problem in Florida; the democrat election and poll officials are were overwhelmed with the number of ignorant psuedo-americans coming in to sell their vote in exchange for a handout. Things quickly get out of hand and the democrats do the only thing they know to do... blame republicans.

Florida has for years been a democrat state and having a Republican voted in as Governor has made the demo's crazy with envy. Power to a democrat is like crack to an addict and when they are without it they are out of their mind crazy. As an addict they will lie, manipulate, steal and cheat to get their drug--Power. Democrats should remember the old adage, "The tangle web we weave when we first try and to deceive".

"We should, for the sake of the country, demand some personal accountability when it comes to voting."

Lol! How about demanding some personal accountability for those that hold office. The truth is that Democrats and Republicans are identical. When the rhetoric fades, the same old hacks--themselves slaves who have been purchased and sold to the highest bidder, occupy the same seats of Congress and the same monument to hypocrisy called the White House.

Better stick to Shelly's plan.

Hell, at least they go out and vote there in Floda. Here on the coast of Oregon ( Where about 60% of the total Oregon workforce are employed by the city, county, state,or federal government)the only ones who vote are us old farts and the ones who want to keep feeding at the govt trough. It is really difficult to pull a 50 year old pseudo hippy who has been living off the system his entire life, out of his bus and drag him down to the registrar's office. Whoa, and then there are the ones who retired here from California who want to make it just like it was back home????? Naa, I'd say those Florida folks are going to iron this thing out just fine without the help of the Supremes this time.

If you want to argue bring up politics or religion or OS's, mac/pc mac/pc, mac/pc......
The problem with the voting machines is USER ERROR. The problem with voting cards is USER ERROR. Deleting important files is USER ERROR. Spilling Micky Dees coffee in your lap in your car is USER ERROR.

Why is it when you look at the manual on a push mower it warns against using it as a hedge clipper. A little picture warns against holding it by the edge with you fingers underneath and above the hedges. Someone sliced off fingers and sued. USER ERROR.

The point is there is no cure for stupidity, but lawyers would like us to believe there is....millions of dollars in damages for your own stupidity. Make the company pay. Make it cost more for me. 40% of the cost of a step ladder is all the warning labels that have to be put on.

As Douglas Adams put it, there are instuctions on a box of Toothpicks.

The sad thing is stupid people are allowed to vote, it does not mean that they actually can vote.

As to conspiracies: Ben Frankiln said, ...."3 people can keep a secret, as long as 2 of them are dead.

I propose the implementation of rats mazes leading to the voting machines. Those that spend more than 30 minutes meandering around are dropped through trap doors and onto a chute that carries them back out onto the side walk. }>

Well, most of us that are not trying to grind their own favorite ax here, were trying to keep this a humorous thread.

The truth is that all the problems last Tuesday were caused by incompetent poll workers and election supervisors in about 16 of our 67 counties, mostly in south florida, which we all know is now a third world country. It as not the voters fault that voting machines were not correctly programmed, or turned on. Nor is it the voters fault that some voting places that were supposed to be open at 7:00 AM were not open until 4:00 PM. It was not the voters fault that some polling places ran out of ballots, or distributed the wrong party's ballot to the wrong voters, or printed Democratic ballots with a code on then that told the scanner they were Republican ballots causing the scanning machines to void the votes on them for Democratic candidates. It was not the voters fault that after the governor ordered polls to remain open an extra two hours, that nobody communicated that order to most of the polling stations, or that computer voting machines were programmed to turn off promptly at 7:00 PM regardless of What the governor ordered.

It was all actually quite humorous except for one little detail... Every error throughout the state that I have so far heard or read about, without exception, was something that favored the Republican Party. What a strange coincidence!

BTW, I'm not a Democrat, I'm now registered an Independent, but I was a registered Republican when I lived up north, and ran for office as a Republican. Why did I change? Because I discovered that many of the people down here in the south that call themselves Republicans, are not. They are far right knee jerk reactionaries pumped full of simplistic propaganda, who never had an original thought in their lives, and parrot what they read in newspapers owned by nut cases, or hear on the radio talk shows from more nut cases.

Well Shelly, here's a new one for you (maybe not). Last night I had Hardball with Chris "AM I YELLING LOUD ENOUGH" Mathews on for a short while and the discussion was that it was the Democratic party regulars who didn't want Reno to win. Also discussed was that they wanted the elections to go bad so that old feelings could be brought up again and used against Bush. You're a resident and I was only a part timer (almost a snowbird) for a short period. State political parties can effect outcomes in detrimental ways (I lived in Chicago during Daley's reign). Don't want to but in to Fla's business, just an observation from another Independent.

That's partly correct. The party hacks were afraid Reno was carrying too much baggage to win in November, so she had little backing. Her power base is in south Florida.an there is a lot of animosity toward her there in the Cuban community. Any Democrat to win statewide must get a hefty vote total in south Florida to offset the heavy redneck vote in northern Florida, where I live. You would not believe the vitriol published in the papers here in north Florida against Reno, or any Democrat. Many of the major papers here are owned by Morris Communications, and old man Morris would make the John Birch Society look like a bunch of left wing radicals.

As a Brit, your link is, for me, highly illuminating........and, again as a Brit, I certainly don't believe all that I read.

But this guy, Greg Palast is really something else.

It's late here now, but I've bookmarked him for later - and Buzzflash!

Thanks

PS. As an American, what do you think of Rush Limbaugh?

Rush Limbaugh
The Top Gun of Talk Radio

September 13, 2002

"During these all-important, pre-Iraq hearings demanded by congressional Democrats, they ought to be called to account for their inaction, incompetence, malfeasance and monumental failure to protect us from terrorism."

"As the lone superpower in the world, as the lone nation that liberates the oppressed around the world and is the beacon of light for freedom, it's almost incumbent upon us to take these actions."

"Thanks again to Vice President Dick Cheney for giving us 23 minutes for an interview. He showed up 3 minutes early, and we appreciate that. We have few guests on this program, but the vice president is always welcome."

"I'm going to make a prediction. It's not going to be long before all of these timid, weak excuses for leaders and Democrat partisans try to claim credit for the defeat of Saddam Hussein."

"This program exists for a number of reasons, but one of the reasons is that we are not a rubber stamp of the mainstream media nor the liberal dominance of the country."

"You know what a vegetarian is? It's just a Native American name for 'lousy hunter.'"

"I had a huge smile on my face when ABC called wanting to advertise their new show with George Stephanopoulos on my radio program. This network, along with NBC and CBS, basically feels that this program is hosted by a partisan extremist to an audience of mind-numbed robots that are dumb and stupid, yet what door are they knocking on to advertise their new show?"

"Can you believe the Democrats are actually polling the American people, asking them if dragging their feet and going slow will help, hurt or have any effect on their election campaign?"

"John 'Fitzgerald' Kerry is in a huge snit. He was setting up an antiwar campaign. He was going to use his military experience in Vietnam to say he's a man of peace and blah, blah, blah. Well Bush made a slam-dunk speech on Thursday and is going to make any peacenik look like your average Vietnam War protester heading off to Canada back in 1968."

"Patrick Leahy is out there discussing the West Nile virus as a possible act of terrorism. The CDC says that there's no evidence, but if it is, and if that thought enters enough people's minds, it's going to add urgency to everybody's ammo in terms of acting against Iraq."

Guns don't kill people. Husbands who come home early kill people.

I'm a Jerry Springer fan myself...

Where do they dredge up all those huge insane people they drag in there for that show. Apparently there's plenty of them over 300 hundred pounds.

As a carpenter, I'd hate to have the maintenance contract on that stage.

ukmitch,

I'm gratified that you find the information of interest. I find it ironic that contrary to Britains history of tyranny and oppression with America, Britain's current news coverage of world events is far less distorted than America's. Even Australia's coverage of world events is more reliable than the US media.

I always found Rush Limbaugh to be a clever thinker, but he like so many here in America, honestly believe there is a difference between Democrats and Republicans--the fact is that they are essentially identical. As I posted earlier on this thread, when the rhetoric fades, Democrats and Republicans are both the same hacks who have been purchased and sold to the highest bidder and occupy the seats of Congress. The White House is a monument to hypocrisy and global corporate interest, with Britain as a lap dog.

Rush is a mainstream Republican who atacks any opposition to that viewpoint. He ridicules environmentalists (tree huggers), animal rights, feminists (FemiNazis), liberals (bleeding hearts), homeless people, and on and on. I'm not a Republican or Democrat. I think he's full of crap on a lot of issues and dead on on others. I hate him and like him. He's incredibly funny and talented and I think that is why he is #1 in talk radio. Talent on loan from God, as Rush likes to say. I wish I had his self esteem!
