It's rather strange how the same configuration of ZAP, in two (2) systems, reacts so very differently in each system, after installing this latest update.
In Win98SE system, I cannot login to the pc911 forum without disabling everything (privacy settings) in ZAP.
In XP Pro system, I can remain logged in to this forum while using the same ZAP settings. The update works just fine. Weird!
Unless, of course, there may be some minor setting I am missing in the Win98SE systems ZAP settings. And there is no way I am about to allow uncensored accesss by some other idiot who insists upon bloating my Win98SE system any worse than it already is.
I had a different version of ZAP in each of the systems, with Win98SE using an older version (3.0.xxx) and decided to make them the same version. Obviously a mistake!
I set ZAP to block all (at least as many as possible) of the third party cookies and all the other unnecessary garbage that some sites attempt to inundate me with. <G> And removed the rest by other means. (Thank goodness for the SpyBot Search & Destroy app.)
May just have to restore with the backup to Win98SE as it was before the installation of the update (?).
Anyone using Win98SE having a remedy setting, I'd appreciate the imput! Or an idea as to where I may have erred in the settings! I know, it a tough thing to analyze without looking into all the settings I have, but maybe someone else ran into the same issue.
You don't give the IE version in w98, but when using IE6 it's usually recommended to disable the privacy features in ZAPro... they tend to conflict with IE6. If I'm not mistaken, that has been addressed to some extent in the newest version of Pro.
I had ZAPro on my system for awhile, but turned the privacy settings off from day one. I'm now using ZAPlus, so can't run any tests for you.
Look for the Site List Tab. The following is a copy/paste from the help file:
Site List tab Use the Site List tab of the Privacy panel to customize cookie control and mobile code control settings for specific Web sites.
The list displays sites you have visited in your current ZoneAlarm Pro session, and sites for which you have previously customized settings. If you do not customize settings for a site you've visited, it is dropped from the list when you shut down your computer or shut down ZoneAlarm Pro.
To see what I'm talking about, go the help file, and click on "Interface Guide." Then "Panel by Panel" >> Privacy Panel >> Site List Tab.
Marti, I'll check it out (in XP now) but I should have had that situation covered with the custom settings I had. It may have been changed with the upgrade. (?)
(I guess I didn't look in the right place or far enough, huh? Spent an hour at their site.)
My problem was that I couldn't remember where to get the ZAPro help file. I have the ZA Free help file, and obviously have the ZA Plus file, but never downloaded the other one.
I'm not talking about the manual (I have a print out of the ZAPro manual), but the same actual help file that the users see. If I look at the help files, it's easier to explain things to folks. I even took a screen shot of one page to post to a forum, to illustrate where he would find a particular setting.
Well, Marti, it required a restore of the system which only took about 10 min. to accomplish. Gotta love it!
Anyway, I can now login without a problem. I went back to the 2.6.362 version of ZAP. I'll leave it alone for awhile yet. Maybe try the next update. (?) <G>
Are you saying that you were unable to get the settings configured so that you could access certain sites? That's strange. Why did you do a system restore? Why not just do an uninstall/reinstall?
I have three versions saved. None would work for me in W98SE. Don't know why, yet, but I'm looking into it tomorrow.
Getting kinda late and the brain is foggin' up on me. <G> Its 2:15 AM!
My how time flies when you're having fun. And, I still gotta restore some stuff I installed recently, too. I only image every other week. Not any need to do more.
