""open in new window"... won't"

Hi,
I'm new here, but there seems to be a lot of info here, so here is my question.
When I click on a hyperlink or right-click and select "open in new window", I get a window that looks exactly like the one I just had, I get the "thinking about it" hourglass, and that's it. When I click "stop", I get this error message:
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Action canceled
Internet Explorer was unable to link to the Web page you requested. The page might be temporarily unavailable.
Please try the following:

Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

If you have visited this page previously and you want to view what has been stored on your computer, click File, and then click Work Offline.

For information about offline browsing with Internet Explorer, click the Help menu, and then click Contents and Index.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I have also noticed that this happens with pop-up ads and such, as well.
Is this an IE6 problem, or a windows problem?
I am running windows ME.
Any ideas as to go about a fix on this?

Welcome Panamag8or

Try again after deleting your Temporary Internet Files (Tools > Internet Options) and temporarily turn off any software that stops pop-ups or advertising. Does it still happen?3telo4

You are getting sleepy, very sleepy...

In IE>Tools>Internet Options>Advance tab scroll down to and check or uncheck "Reuse Windows for launching shortcuts". Maybe it will work for you but for me it doesn't make any difference. That is, most all links open in a new browser window regardless of whether it's marked or not - which is what I prefer.

When you're on a page with a link that gives you an hourglass when you select "Open in New Window", try copying and pasting the link to see if it is actually functional.

Jim.

I tried both of the options given, but I get no results, waah. I don't believe I have any pop-up stopper programs running, although who knows what my daughter has loaded. I quit all but the necessary programs and cleared temp files. I also checked the "re-use" option in advanced, but still nothing. I have the "Watchdog" access control program, but I exited it in case it was the culprit, but I guess its not. I also made sure that nothing was running at startup in msconfig.
I can open another instance of IE and cut and paste the links just fine. Here is what I see as the URL address of the "conferences" link on this page when I display the properties of the "new" window after I have clicked "stop":
res://C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SHDOCLC.DLL/navcancl.htm#http://www.pcqanda.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi

If this helps.

Aaaarrgghh!

Well, if you've emptied your temp. internet files and cleared history, and this still occurs, you can try IE repair. For versions of Windows other than XP, paste the following in Start>Run and select Repair Internet Explorer - rundll32.exe setupwbv.dll,IE5Maintenance

Hi, I am new to this Forum. I have the same problem, running Windows 98 and IE6. Have carried out all the suggestions but with no results? Did the original poster solve this?
