""Not a valid Win32 Application""

I have a label application that I installed on my computer long ago that works very well. When I clean installed XP Pro, I used the installer and it worked fine for about two weeks. Now I get the above message every time that I try to load it up. I know that XP will run it, but does anyone have any ideas what can I do to correct this problem so that it won't come back?

Thanks,

Paul

Probably there is a corrupt file, if the installation CD is corrupt you need to get a new copy.

I just tried installing it on another XP computer and it installed properly, so I don't think that the CD got corrupted. Shouldn't this run in a 16 bit mode or something like that for older software?

Find the shortcut on the Start, Programs and right click, select Properties, select the Compatablility tab, select Windows 95.

Maybe the problem is that files are installing in the same location they were before, if there is a corrupt file there, it would not be overwriten it, try installing in another folder but maybe some other files are installed under the Windows folder and they are more difficult to find.

It won't run in compatibility mode nor will any program run from CD that was not designed for XP. I have tried to use the compatibity mode for the "setup.exe", but it will not run with that either.

Any registry experts think that this may be a problem in that area? This all worked fine when I installed it and I have since installed it on 2 other XP Pro machines as a test and it works just fine.

Sonny:

It does not appear on the XP Add-Remove Programs list???? It's out there in the program listings, it installed with no problems, worked well for 3 weeks, but no uninstall available. As soon as I try to double click any 16 bit setup.exe or actual program, the message appears that it is not a valid 32 bit program and it will not run. Very confusing.

Thanks,

Paul

Try installing it over itself to enable you to remove it and reinstall.

What is the app anyway?

Sonny:

Herein lies the rub. Since the problem began, I cannot get the "setup.exe" to run when I try to over write the previous install. That is where I also get the "not valid win32 application" also. That's why I think that something in the registry may be stopping the program as soon as I try to start it up.

The application is "My Advanced Label Maker" by MySoftware. I have 3 install CD's because I bought three versions to run on 3 seperate machines. Yes, I am one of the suckers that believes in Copyright agreements, and they all act the same.

This may seem like over-kill, but all of the people in the office (3) are used to this simple, but effective program that works for making labels all day long without any problems or 400 options that we don't need.

I appreciate all of your help.

Paul

Try deleting the program's folder under Program Files, then download RegCleaner from www.jv16.org and remove any registry entries you have for the app. The installation may have been corrupted.

Edit:
Create a Restore Point first.

Sonny,

I'll give it a shot first thing in the morning. It was getting late and I had to leave the office for the night.

Thanks again,

Paul

Try booting into safe mode & see if you can run setup.exe from there.

Turns out this was a problem created by CleanReg3 delteting a series of "WOW" lines in the registry that caused the problem. Luckily I had a copy of the undo file available and was able to restore the registry back to normal.

Thanks to all,

Paul
