""Disk Health" -1"

Hi! Hope someone can give me some ideas. Daughter's pc won't test disk health at pcpitstop. Just shows disk health -1 without testing. Running the full tests it comes out fine. For about the last week her pc won't restart from the "start" menu. Her printer won't print from the "file" button or printer icon but will print a test page from the toolbox. Freezes at McAfee clinic (performance optimizer) when it gets to hard disk. Won't complete a scan disk unless it's in safe mode. Just a multitude of problems. Any good sites to test (and fix) the pc? She has Windows ME with the restore function - but for some reason it only goes back to the 17th! Restored to that point but didn't correct anything. Think either she or my grandson may have downloaded something they shouldn't have but they have no idea what it could be. Can anyone help an old lady? Thanks!

How about running a scandisk? I don't know how to get to it in ME. Get it to scandisk /r (repair) when it is booting up.

As bizarre as it sounds.... if you are getting nonsensical errors, etc., it may be something as simple as an overheating problem. You might want to quickly pull the cover off and see if there is a substantial buildup of dust inside. IF there is, a good cleaning might be all that she needs. BTDT.

In order to report disk health the disk has to support SMART technology (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology). Older disks may not.

Thanks, Shelly. Pc is only 2 years old. Am not there to check for the Smart Technology but think it has it. Mine does and it's a year older than hers. We both have HP models. Hers is a newer model. Thanks for your post!
