"IE 5.5"

I just got done setting up my dual boot again on my new hard drive. Looks like MS is no longer offering IE 5.5. I've got the 5.5 installer saved on my hard drive but it refuses to download the rest of the program. I've tried some alternative websites like demon.net and one posted by Maggie, but no luck.

Does anyone know where i can download IE 5.5 ? TIA.

Thanks, that's the same link that Maggie posted a while back. Iwas able to download the entire 84 MB file but te problem is that when i double click it, my PC does NOTHING - ugh. OS is Windows 2000 (SP2). Very strange as it is a executable file. Right after i d-click it i see a dos command window pop up flash up very quickly and disappear.

Try executing it through the command prompt so you can see the output. To do that, go to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt, navigate to the directory it's in with the "cd" command, and type in the filename.

UnZipSFX 5.32 of 3 November 1997, by Info-ZIP (Zip-Bugs@lists.wku.edu). End-of-central-directory signature not found).

Soiunds like a corrupt copy. Should i re-D/L?

Probably. You might be able to open it in Winzip and repair it from there, so try that first.

Well it's an executable file so i don't know how you would do that. Can WinZip handle that?

Yes, Winzip can handle self-extracting archives (ie sfx files).

At this page I saw IE5.5SP2 is available for ME users.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/support/ie55exsupport.asp

I downloaded and saved the setupexe file to disk. I then opened it and it started the download. I chose custom install. Clicked advanced and then download only. Then I was given a choice of operating systems... 95/98 , ME, NT, & 2000. That`s when I canceled it.

Now I am running Windows ME, so I don`t know if it will work for you or not, but someone with ME can still get it. I think the end of the year support ends for it.

Thanks WoodsHick, i thought that might do da trick - but damn ... it's still giving me this error message. At this point, i'm suspecting there is something goofy w/ my ISP connection (ISP=Comcast). I'm gonna go try JuJet's link and see if that install works.

Glad to hear you finally got it.

Yeah, that is how I found that MS link. I got super slow dialup so I was lookin to buy IE6SP1 disk for 5 bucks when I stumbled on it.

Maybe I`m getting a bit nosy here, but why not just go with IE6?

Follow up question. I d/l the file to my desktop and when i double clicked on it, it self extracted to the root directory of D: (my W2K drive). See the screen shot below. Now that my IE 5.5 (SP2) has installed and rebooted my system, i think it's safe to delete the highlighted folder but i want to make sure and ask for your thoughts before i do so. TIA.
