"Problem with 2000 pro"

I had a problem with the Hoyle card game. There was no audio. I uninstalled the game to see if that would fix the problem. Ever since the uninstall, I have not been able to reinstall the game and several other programs also. When I try to install a program I get the folling error message. "Setup.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created."
I have not been able to find anyone that knows what to do to correct the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Try loggin in as administrator. Also look to see if there are leftovers from the Hoyle install and uninstall. See if there is something left running in the background etc. What other things can't you install?

I beleive that I sign in as adminstrator every time. I do not know how to change how I sign in. A freind installed windows 2000 pro for me and that is how he set it up. It probably is to late to make any difference now. I do not know enough to do much checking out the system. Some of the other programs I can't execute are Partition Magic,Photoshop, EZ Creator 5 and also I downloaded a Sony camera driver that will not execute

Sounds like your friend set you up to NOT be the administrator...

At W2K startup, try signing in using the word "administrator" (w/o quotes of course) and the same password you are currently using. There is at least *some* chance that your buddy used the same password for "user", "power user", and "administrator". Normally you should be logged in as either "user" or "power user" rather than "administrator". This is particularly true if you are connected to a network, including the Internet.
Some programs are to be run as "administrator" only. However those programs can be run while logged in as "user" or "power user" by using the "shift" key and then *Right clicking* on the program's icon. This will open a dialog box which will give you the option: "run as",at that point simply type in the word "administrator" and password and the program will run. This is assuming that your friend did not change the default name (administrator), and the password is the same as the one you normally use.

As far as I can tell I am logging is as adminstrator. The thing about it is I never had any problems loading programs until I did the uninstall on the Hoyle card game program. I can't find any remaining parts to the game. Although I am not sure just where all to look.
Thank for your help.

If setup.exe is corrupt, it is time to use your Emergency Recovery Disk to repair the OS.

Got the problem fixed. I run the Windows 2000 Upgrade from the program disc and that fixed the problem. I would like to thank everyone for their comments and suggestions. Thanks again. Case closed.
