Laptop will not read floppy disks created externally,on the CHKDSK A:/V command in DOS it gives the message:F Parameter not specified corrections will not be written to Disk. A curious thing is the desktop pc doesn`t recognize floppies formatted on the laptop and vice versa. In order to upgrade the laptop i need to get a program on it via floppy so i can transfer important files to the desktop,as you probably have guessed by now it doesn`t have a CD Rom drive. Can anybody please help. Shay.
First off, if the laptop will recognize floppies formatted there, and the desktop will recognize floppies that it formats, then I'd suspect that you have a problem with misalignment on one of those drives. The best bet is to see which floppies are usable on a third system. The machine that formatted any such diskettes is likely the one with the good drive; the other one will then have the misaligned drive.
Does the laptop have a network connection?
As to CHKDSK and the /F parameter...
CHKDSK will do checking of disks without doing any repairs to problems found as its default action. If you want CHKDSK to repair those problems that it is capable of repairing, you must specify that desire by running CHKDSK x: /F, where x is the letter of the drive to be checked.
Thanks Chrisp I`ve checked the floppies on a third drive,a spare desktop,it wont read laptop formatted floppies only its own and those formatted on the main desktop. So its the laptop which is at fault,i`ll have to figure out a way to fix the problem. Also the laptop doesn`t have an internet connection yet. Thanks Hermes
