A friend has a HP computer running WXP Home .He has been trying to copy some pictures to a CD.He has tried a couple of programs and reaches the point where it asks to insert a blank CD.When he does and clicks next it says no disk and says insert one.he tries opening the tray and closing it again(same result. When he next turns on his computer ,he gets a message that he has files waiting to burned to a CD,(they are the picture files he wants)does he want to burn them.He clicks yes but once again it asks for a disk with the same result..He has tried differnt brands of CDs . Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Newbee, it would be helpful if you posted a little more info.
Like what brands of CD-R has he tried and what software is he using to burn the pictures? Has he tried the burning capability within XP's operating system via Windows Explorer?
>Hi Chewy,He has tried Windows Media and Kodak Easyshare as >well as an HP program that I don't recall the name of.He is >using Sony CDRs.Thanks
I have never used Sony CD-R for recording but I haven't heard anything negative about them. Should be OK for burning.
I would start at square one and make sure that the CD burner is jumpered correctly if he made any recent hardware changes. If not, then check in the device mangler to see that the OS recognized the CD-RW drive.
Hi Chewy. He apparently has "hit the sack" as I get no reply from him.We are going to his house for Thanksgiving tomorrowand I will see him then.I will get back with more iformationThanks agai PS It's the Mrs computer .She uses it most and he says she can't burn one either.Happy Thanksgiving Chewy! As Arnold says "I'll be back"
Hi.I am back all full of turkey and all the trimmings and happy to say I found the problem. It was the Sony CDRs.I took some of my Bulk GQ brand ones(Less than 8 cents per CDR) and some of my Maxel CDRs(Free after Rebates) When I started up the system I got the message that there were files waiting to be written to disks.I put in one of the Sony and got the message No disk.I put one of my GQ in and it recognized a disk and copied the pictures.I the tried copying the same pictures from scratch and used a Maxel ,Success again.Tried again and put a new Sony from the same spindle.Failure.Replaced the Sony with a GQ and it copied the pictures to disk OK.His drive just does not recognize the Sonys.I tried this because of your question about what media I was using. Thanks again Chewy.I hope your day was as pleasant mine.I took a few of his Sonys home and 2 of 3 worked on my machine .The third gave me the "no disk in drive"response. Thanks for your clue,Regards,John
