I have read the January posts about the Epson printer cleaning and need more specific imformation. My color cartridge side on my Lexmark 3200 works great. The black side has stopped printing.I put a new Blk. cartridge in but it still does not work. When I check inside after I remove the cartridge it is obvious that ink is coming out of the cartridge as ink is running into the printer.(This was after I had run the"clean print nozzle"program )I have a different printer and use this to print labels sand photos since I have a good supply of ink for it.I would like to get it running again since I do have such a great supply of ink !Do I wipe the head with alcohol. Is it safe to swab it ,should I be very gentle. What kind if alcohol etc etc.??I would appreciate advice

Hi JP,I have tried this. My problem is NOT with the cartridge it is with the printer part beneath the cartridge,When I use the method for cleaning the nozzles that is recommended in my manual and in the site you sent, the ink comes out OK but does not get to the paper on the Black It puddles on the spot below the cartridge and spills down into printer,I need to unclog the part below the cartridge ,hence my request for advice on what to use and how to do it.I appreciate the effort on your part and hope for more suggestions.Thank you, John

Hi JP,I just reread your reply and found that it had imfo regarding the plate beneath the cartridge and how to clean it with cotton swabs and WATER.This was not in my manual which matched what you sent up to that point. Will try it tomorrow. Thanks a lot

Wet paper towel ,cotton swabs and water, a little elbow grease and the printer works like new again. The black now works better than it ever did.I disobeyed a rule I live by(If it ain't broke don't fix it)and decided to swab the color side while I was at it.Surprise it also is crisper in its print now.I figured that all that water in the printer would foul something up .But all is well and my low cost supply of ink is usable again.Thank you JP!

John,I had an old canon 4300 that was giving me similiar problems and I had made up my mind to replace it. Before doing so,I removed the ink tanks and took the printer to the sink and washed it out internally with hot water until the water ran clear. Took it outside in the sunshine and when it dried up I returned to service.Got another year out of it

Reading your original post has given me hope to possibly resurrect and extend the life of an Epson CX 5200. What I've recently learned about printers here has been invaluable.
