"Script Error Running Norton AV."

Went out and got the great deal at CompUSA on Norton SW 2002 (after rebates, $10) that Shelly told us about and installed it. Now getting an IE Script Error when Norton AV Auto-Protect tries to run (you know, the 'Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?' error). Anyone know what gives?

Check if Script debugging is disabled in Tools/Internet Options/Advanced.

Per your suggestion, I checked the setting and there was a check mark in the box for 'Disable script debugging'. I unchecked it and tried to activate Norton Auto-Protect again to no avail. Same response in either case. Puzzling !!!!

I had nothing but trouble with this same scripting error on one machine and installed it trouble free on the first shot on another. No matter what I tried, I could not get rid of it. I just ended up reinstalling NAV 2001 and calling for another year's subscription. For the lousy $9.00 it wasn't worth any more of my time.

I don't know if it makes a difference, but the trouble machine was a PIII 850 Abit BE6 with the notorious HPT366 controller that will not allow XP to install (blocking errors) and the trouble free unit was an IWill KA266R with Magik controllers.

Good luck,

Paul

No prob, Shelly, I figured since it was already checked, it would be a good idea try try it unchecked. Still, I wasn't sure which way it should be. Just re-checked it. Thanx, Shel.

Sid,

Are you running Windows NT/2000/XP?
If so, here's an example of a fix I found in Symantec's KB.
A search for IE Script Error turns up more.
----------------
IE Script Error:

Line 882:
An error has occurred in the script on this page
Line: 882
Char: 5
Error: Unspecified Error
Code: 0
URL: res://C:\Progra~1\Norton~1/Navui.dll/navstats.htm

This error happens when the main user interface fails to enable Auto-Protect. The error will happen only on computers that are running Windows NT/2000/XP. The problem can occur when the Norton Auto-Protect service has not been registered.

To register the Auto-Protect service:
1. Check to determine whether "Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect Service" is in the list of services.
1. Click Start, point to Programs, and Administrative Tools.
2. Click Services.
3. Locate the entry "Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect Service"
4. If you do not find the entry, then close the Services program and do the following to register the service:
5. Click Start, and then click Run.
6. Type the following in the run line:

"c:\program files\norton antivirus\navapsvc.exe" /service

NOTE: This is the default location for NAV. If NAV is installed to a different folder, then change the path to the appropriate location.

2. If you see the Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect Service entry, but it is disabled, then right-click the entry, and then click Start to start the service.
3. If the service is listed and is not disabled, then follow these steps to unregister and then re-register the service.
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. Type the following command line, and then press Enter.

"c:\program files\norton antivirus\navapsvc.exe" /unregserver

3. Type the following command line, and then press Enter.

"c:\program files\norton antivirus\navapsvc.exe" /service

NOTE: This is the default location for NAV. If NAV is installed to a different folder, then change the path to the appropriate location.

4. Close the Services applet.
