"Drive letters changed"

My primary hard drive used to have drives C: D: E: and secondary HD had F: and G:

I just installed Norton SystemWorks 2002 and ran the "One Button Check-up which changed the drive IDs. The cause was probably due to my copying aps from C: to F: and G: as back-ups in preparation to reformating C: for a clean install of Win98SE. My fault for letting Norton take over.

My Pri. HD now shows C: E: F: and Sec. HD shows D: G: H: and my Zip as I:

Somehow a new drive appeared ( and D: moved from Pri HD to Sec HD.

How can I get the drives back into sequence?

bobbo,

Did you have a previous version of NSW installed?

If so, and it is one of the apps you copied to F: or G: , it may be a problem because NSW 2002 requires pre-existing NSW files to be removed as stated here...

http://service2.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nsw.nsf/docid/2001101612274407

Excerpt:
--------------
Previous versions of Norton SystemWorks (NSW) would allow installation over an earlier version.

NSW 2002 however, requires pre-existing NSW files to be removed before installation will proceed.

In many cases, not all of the files from older versions are being removed by the uninstaller utility (Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel).

The Norton SystemWorks cleanup utility is designed to remove the registry entries and program files that interfere with the installation of NSW 2002.

I thought I had removed all traces of SystemWorks 2001, and 2000, but I may have missed something. I deleted all references I could find in the Registry after uninstalling. I will have to try the cleanup utility.
Thanks for the link.
