Is there anyway to set the toolbar search to open in a new window instead of a half-window? It opens in a new window from Favorites so it should be possible to do the same from the toolbar. Thanks.

Jim,
Were it not for the recent release of WindowsXP, I would probably remember what operating system and browser was being used by most of our regular posters. I don't remember those details about your system.

Jim,
The hard job is getting it to open as a child window (the default). What you want can be done but I personally like to leave search alone. On my system, I keep multiple search engines in my favorites and I have a favorites flyout menu from the Start button. You could even have a shortcut on the Quick Launch toolbar to "http://www.yahoo.com/" etc. for each of your favorite searches.
If there is a reason that you really want the search to be a tool bar button, I'm sure we can come up with a reg file to edit the registry but it's so easy to make shortcuts that do what you want that I think that makes more sense.

Jim,
The real power of having the search tool appear as a child window is that when you click a link in the search window it changes the content of the main window without affecting the child (search engine) window. This is a huge plus if you get many hits on a search and you want to take a peak at more than a few of them. If you launch the search engine to take up the normal IE windows, following a link leaves the search window behind and you have to use the back button to navigate back to all your hits.
I actually like to have both options available. More often than not I launch the search from my favorites but there are times that I expect many links to show on a search and I don't want to be adding extra steps and waiting for slow loading pages so I use the standard IE search.
Unfortunately no matter how wide I stretch the "child" window, the window will not display the entire search engine's window. So I have to use the scroll bar to get to features on the right side of the search engine.
