I am running win98se,320mb ram, celeron 800mHZ with Internet Explorer V6.0 The problem is that in all but a few instances the ie window opens as a small compact floating toolbar. I have to double click the blue area in the tool bar to open it full. I have looked everywhere in the configuration of ie, but to no avail. Can anyone in this forum please help .

The only thing I would suspect is someone resized your window. If the /dash/box/X is visible in the right corner, move your mouse to that corner and drag your window back open. I cant think of anything else that would do that.

If you are launching IE from a shortcut, right click on the shortcut and in the drop down Run line change the selection to maximized. If it is not a shortcut. Create a shortcut, and then do as above. Then use that shortcut to launch IE in the future, and delete the non-shortcut.

Oh Boy That's the answer. My head is sore from banging on the wall. I should have thought of that myself. Thanks Shelly. You were bang on. Merry Xmas and Happy New Year.

sterno,
Does the toolbar look like this?
If so, you have the infamous "won't open in new window problem" with IE6. I had a minor problem, but didn't not have the toolbar with the minus, box, and X, until I tried some of the fixes mentioned on the Microsoft IE6 News Group.
I have done things to my system that had the potential of totally messing it up, and I still can't get rid of that toolbar! I also can't resize IE windows, and a few other problems.
An update to IE6 is in the works (IE6/SP-1, version 6.00.2811.1400). It may or may not solve this problem. I don't feel comfortable listing all of the possible fixes, as you my end up with a worse mess than you already have (like my system)!
Can you click on links from OE? Shortcuts from the Quick Launch Tool bar?

Yes, that is what it looked like. I have it all fixed now, but it is Microsoft we are talking about, isn't it? I did what Shelly told me to do and that seemed to fix it. Thanks for your input.
