"Windows 10- can't open any browser's all of a sudden"

My Dad has windows 10 on his PC with the edge browser and he also has internet explorer, chrome and fire fox. All were able to access the internet the other day until yesterday , none will open at all. He does have internet because his antivirus programs were able to scan for viruses and detected none. What should he do to get his browsers working again? They just won't open.

Many thanks,

Adirondack Girl

Has he tried restarting his computer?

If the browsers simply weren't able to connect to the internet, I'd suspect his modem/router, but you said that currently none of them will open at all.

I don't understand the comment that he has internet because his AV scan found nothing.

Jim.

I agree with KJT, The oldest likely solution for computer weirdness is "if it don't compute you should reboot"

The fact that your anti-virus works is no indication of being connected to the internet.

Hi all,

Yes he has rebooted and he has been able to update his virus scanners so he is able to connect to the internet.

Have him try this: Right click the Start Icon and select Command Prompt (Admin) then enter
this command netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

Press "Enter".

Reboot his computer

Or, alternatively:

Quote:
press Windows+R on the keyboard to open the Run window. Type netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt and press Enter.

Hi KJT,

I tried that but it didn't work. When I try to open edge I get an error box with explorer.exe in the top left corner and a round red x below it. It also says class not registered. , all in the same box.

I also noticed when I opened task manager I saw that the googla chrome browser wasnt closed so I ended that task but I am unable to end firefox so I don't know if that is why I can't open the firefox or chrome browsers. I can actually get chrome to load a page but I get that same box, about the explorer.exe. so nothing comes online. Firefox never loads a page and neither does edge. Any other suggestions

Sorry, I'm about out of ideas. All the browsers, including Firefox, I've ever used get closed when I reboot, So, if you haven't rebooted since trying "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt", try rebooting.

I don't have any experience with Edge but WIn10 still has IE which you might want to try.

Jim.

Yes, I don't have any experience with Win 10 either. Here is another error message he received previously. I have not seen it. Again, I appreciate your help.

Here's some information about that message: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/protect/forum/protect_other-protect_scanning/windows-10-pc-freezes-while-enlarging-pictures/64d449b4-8476-41e2-b155-516502f81da8?tab=question&status=AllReplies#tabs

I don't think it will be helpful but it probably explains the message.

Thanks for this link, I will try some of these ideas, it's hard for me to do this stuff as I work so much. I will post back and let you know. They want to charge a couple hundred bucks at office depot to fix for him.

Most antivirus programs are not necessarily reliant on an internet connection. That should be only mandatory for the latest virus definitions. If no browser will even open (as opposed to successfully connecting to a URL, then I'd be looking at a malware issue.

Have not seen you post in ages!

Yes, W10 has updated frequently but I have not seen other posts about a slowdown resulting.

Good Morning Shelly! Good to see you! i don't post often, but i sometimes come back to see what you guys are up to. Buying a house kind of lead me away from the computer, except for the DIY sites, lol. I hope you are well and not having even a breeze of this 9F/ feels like -30 weather that has hit New England, yikes! ((( )))

Nice to see you back.

Here in Ohio, right now, on my home thermometer, it's -6.2°F.

It's not breezy at the moment but I'm still not going out to check the "feels-like" temperature.

Jim.
