"Windows 10 update version 2004"
Thu Jun-18-20 02:38 AM by bobbo

This up;date has been running most of the day. It is currently stalle3d at 85%. Should I let it keep running or try again at a later date?

Edit: The install has made a giant leap forward to 92%. All it took was to complain about the slowness of the install. I'll let it coontinue.

The download completed and the install commenced for about 45 minutes and included several restarts. The update looks pretty much the same ad before and includes a page of what has been done. Notably, the Win 7 games were deleted, and I reinstalled them; might have been a mistake, as my sound is gone again and I haven't been able to restore it. Will continue to explore the new update and will report back on any successes I experience.

Did a trouble shoot of sound and found the sound element wasn't set as default. Made the change and the sound is back.

My Computer:
Homebuilt
W10 Pro
Antec Earthwatts 500W PS
Gigabyte 880GM-USB3
AMD FX4100 3.6 GH 4 core
8G Ram
Samsung EVO 840 256G SSD(Sys drive)
640 Gig WD Blk (Data & Backup Drive)

Just wanted to let everyone know that it doesn't necessarily take all day to install the 2004 update. I installed mine in about 2hrs from start to finish. This was on my 9 year old system! (see above specs) Gotta love Gigabyte mother boards. Not a single hiccup since first turning it on. And by the way, I never, and I mean never have I turned it off except for restarts after installing updates or software. Maybe I'm just lucky.

P.S. By the way, the update caused no problems whatsoever!

My 5 year old laptop updated to version 2004 with no problems.
My 6 month old desktop i5 9400 wouldn't and displayed the following.
A very confusing and unhelpful message.

I believe that my problem involved a recent update of the World Community Grid which kept kicking in during the download/install. It took quite a while, but the update finished and is running properly now.

My sound went on and off after this update. Finally found where it said the drivers with that update were incorrect for my PC. I went to the site it said and downloaded correct drivers and so far it is all good.

My desktop has updated to version 2004 in about 50 minutes.
One thing I noticed is that the Internet icon has changed design and hovering over it states "No internet access" yet the internet is working as normal.

I think this is a known problem.

EDIT:
The cure for this issue is:

There is a cumulative update and .net update that ran before and after 2004 so it can seem like it takes forever if they all run at the same time.

Windows apparently did me a favor. Last night I attempted to install 2004. It was taking too long so I left it running and went to bed.

This morning I was greeted with notification that installation had failed due to an "error" and "Click here" to remove the changes.

Once "reverted", everything seems to be running smoothly.

That was when I saw the two new postings.

So, thank you Microsoft Windows 2004 - seems like you have saved me a whole lot of bother - including re-installation of Windows games.

Jim.
