So I take it many of you go Google Earthing around, right? Well, Google Earth (or Google Maps with "satellite" on) to where you are, take a screenshot and post it with just a few clues. I'm in San Diego, near the zoo. Can you find me? Have you ever been here?

Hell, .. Google said most of the Older Images of Cities were not much older than Four Years. Half of the Pictures of our Town are about 20 Years old and the other Half is Damn near as Old as me. And believe me, I'm no Spring Chicken.

Darren, I moved from about 30 miles or so southeast of Hartsfield. I used to live in Henry County so this is a challenge to find. Harder than I thought.

One clue I see is that your're located on a relatively busy east-west two-lane.

Found you!

Edit: Darren, I've driven almost to your house. Judy and I drove SR20 many times to Conyers and instead of turning left at the four-way stop, we occasionally drove to or past Snapping Shoals EMC enroute to a Methodist Church facility on Salem Road. I had to look more carefully with a road overlay to see that. But we did go to Covington occasionally. Beautiful area to live.

One of the things we really liked about the countryside was the gently rolling hills and meadows. Very picturesque and relaxing.

The only thing I did not like was the spring pollen season. It was in Georgia where I found out I was allergic to oak pollen!

I can't claim nativity to Georgia. Alabama is where I grew up (Judy says I'm still doing that and doing it too slow) and then traveled a bit until settling in northeast Florida before moving to Henry County. We were in Henry County for just over 10 years before moving to Bluffton, SC.

Google Earth does not have a good image for Bluffton just yet. It's a good thing since things are growing so fast here. The landscape here in Beaufort County is rapidly changing, much like Gwinett, Henry, Newton, and Rockdale have. Maybe in a few months I can find and post a good image of this area.

Hi, Unfortunately, outside the US most sat pics on Google Earth are low def(unless you're near something military!), Here's where we hang out, If you can't relate to the Eastern UK, it lies at 51.55N 01.16E.

Cheers,
Richard.

I had the hardest time finding Darren's place. Found most of the others as well.

Richard, looks like good yachting territory there.

Les, thanks for making yours a little easier to find.

Dave, beautiful country around Woodward road.

Lonnie, looks like you're just a block away from some nice woods.

Thanks all!

Those 'nice woods' are the start of the Black River Reservation...with Day's Dam (part of the Park Service).
When hubby was just a wee lad , he and his friends would go diving off the cliffs into the Black River...mind you, this was in the 1940s (EARLY 40s ) and the entire area with all those houses weren't even there - all orchards, etc...altho the house directly across from my house is now considered an 'oldie'...110 years old as a matter of fact!
One has to do a Google re Lorain - boring little city, but it did give birth to Toni Morrison (Pulitzer Prize winner), Father Sarducchi from SNL, a couple of WW2 Heroes, etc.

The old St. Joseph Hospital on Broadway...it's now the VA Specialty Hospital. Then there's Community Health Partners - that's near the now closed Ford Plant by the Lake...Elyria Memorial Hospital...Amherst General Hospital... St. John WestShore Hospital in Westlake ...too many hospitals in a 15 mile radius.

My location in Ann Arbor, MI is mostly blur and not worth posting.

However, here is an overall view of the city, such as it is.

Heck! I can't use it at all... I have ME...

Well, I did try and use the Windows Find thing (Beta)...can't remember exact name ...but this is the best I could do...I am on a corner lot. There has got to be an easier way of doing this!

Hint... My house is next to the 3rd letter of the alphabet...Large front lawn... 2car garage ... ...oh yeah...almost forgot...I am in Lorain, Ohio.

Northern Indiana. This was as close as Google would let me get. It's pretty blurry being out in the county. From what I can see, this image is at least five years old. There is a new subdivision behind the tree line off my back yard now. In this photo, there is just empty land.

Moses Lake, WA. This used to be a Strategic Air Command base and you can still see the christmas trees where the B-52's were parked and on alert. The base was closed many years ago and I am living in one of the houses that used to be military housing. Very exciting times during the cold war years when you would see all of the B-52's and tankers scramble for a MITO takeoff.

Another interesting picture from where I live. This is pretty much desert country around here and crops are grown using circle irrigation from a complex irrigation system fed from Grand Coulee Dam. Creates a rather unique landscape from the air.

Years ago, my neighbor stocked it with huge trout, one of which my young son caught by the tail as he was pulling in an empty hook.

The pond has had more use as an ice skating rink, which for years as "pondkeeper" I had to keep plowed with my tractor/snowblower.

Fond memories of both activities....

I'm located 17 miles west of the Gateway Arch in St Louis Mo.
Original home of Budweiser and also noted for the beautiful St Louis Women.

House has brown roof, been here 48 yrs,2 cars in the driveway.
Only 27 homes on our street and we all know each other.
Can't miss my house, has an old monitor for a mailbox and a 40 foot antenna in the back yard.
I'm in the fifth house on the right,if your in the neighborhood, stop by and we'll open a keg of nails.I still have a few from WW11.

Ok, I've been putting this off but here goes. It's not as clear as some but alot better than others. It's about 30 minutes south east of Pittsburgh and about 15 minutes from where the Steelers do spring training. I outlined the property (obviously) and the house is kind of hidden in the trees.

Good point. Here are some ground views of our community.

Our 2nd floor balcony across the courtyard with shrubbery. Ours is the long one in the shade in this shot.

Some information about the community.

This has some better views.

I live in Mandurah, Western Australia. If you put Mandurah, Australia into
the search feature of Google Earth it will find it for you. They are canals
yes. Around Mandurah there would be half a dozen different areas which have
canals through them.

I did a quick search for you and found this picture. Its typical of what
most of the canals look like around here. The lifestyle would be very nice
but comes at a pretty penny.

Sorry for the delayed reply, a sinus infection took me out for a few days.

The greenhouse is about 175,000 square feet and the outside fields (on the left side of the picture) are about 250,000 square feet. The outside fields are mostly 1 gallon pots all lined up in rows.

>now. Sorry.

Heck, post it here, we won't mind.

I thought I'd show where I spent part of my childhood because, well, it was a pretty groovy place to grow up. I lived somewhere in that white circle...

...in Ipanema. The Corcovado (with the famous statue of Cristo Redentor) is at the top center of this shot near the white squigle in the middle of the green forest. The Sugar Loaf is off to your right just out of the shot. Google has some pretty good images of this part of the world.

This was in the sixties. I've been told that things there have changed, and not for the better. When I lived there though, it was a wonderful place.

To give you a better idea of how close to Ipanema beach we were, here's a close up.

This was probably the best place I've ever lived. I have no desire to go back though because of the changes that have taken place since I lived there. I prefer to remember it the way it was.

>Those are some really beautiful beaches!

Yeah, it was, and probably still is a beach culture. I remember it being hot, but apparently I acclimated well because I don't recall ever being uncomfortably hot.

In fact, there are only a few incidental reminders of the heat that come to mind. The first was the daily adventure of trying to make it across that expanse of sand to get to the area of the beach where you'd put your towell down (you can see in the close up shot that the half of the beach closest to the street is mostly unused). Being barefoot, we'd run as far as we could before we just couldn't stand the scorching our feet were enduring and stop and burry our feet a few inches down in to get to the "cooler" sand. Then after a minute or two to recover we'd go scampering off again.

I also remember the water (and the mate*) being breathtakingly cold and so refreshing. I would belly board until my belly was raw from the cheap polystyrene boards we used.

*Mate was (and hopefully still is) a strong type of tea sold by vendors who would walk along the beach carrying an iced pony keg of the potent, caffeinated brew selling it by the cup. It was COLD, S-W-E-E-T and strong and I loved to get wired on it as much as I liked hearing the mate song that the vendors would sing as they walked along the beach. It was the Red Bull of the day - only better.

I remember the surf always being good too. Usually about shoulder high and good form. I don't ever recall wondering if the waves were good - they just always were. I'd simply go to the beach at any time and expect to be able to surf until I was exhausted.

I was just a pup when I lived there, but the girls didn't go unnoticed. That, however, will have to be the subject of a future post.

Ciao!

This is really spooky! I was listening to XM Radio Sunny channel and I opened up the forum here. Just as I opened Scotter's post, "The Girl From Ipanema" started playing. It took me a couple of seconds to put the picture and the song together. Was it just a coincidence or did I just step into the twilight zone?

My last three posts have been directed elsewhere but have wound up here. Not that this isn't a nice place, but really...

I'll try again.
