Someone correct me if I am wrong. An acronym is an abbreviation of a phrase or name, a Mnemonic is a mind game to remember something and an acrostic is a type of poem. Similar but different.

Acronyms and initialisms are abbreviations that are formed using the initial components in a phrase or name.
An acrostic (from the late Greek akróstichis, from ákros, "top", and stíchos, "verse") is a poem or other form of writing in an alphabetic script, in which the first letter, syllable or word of each line, paragraph or other recurring feature in the text spells out a word or a message. As a form of constrained writing, an acrostic can be used as a mnemonic device to aid memory retrieval.
A mnemonic device (English pronunciation: /nɪ'mɒnɪk/<1>) is a mind memory and/or learning aid. Commonly, mnemonics are verbal—such as a very short poem or a special word used to help a person remember something—but may be visual, kinesthetic or auditory. Mnemonics rely on associations between easy-to-remember constructs which can be related back to the data that is to be remembered.

"Thirty days has September April June and November All The rest have Thirty one Excepy February which has Twenty eight But in Leap year it has Twenty nine" We had to commit this to memory in the fourth grade. It stuck throughout my life!
