"Trump press conference in Scotland after Brexit."
Sat Jun-25-16 07:02 AM by Paul D

The Donald is in Scotland opening improvements to his golf course. Here is a press conference he held after the idiot British (but not the Scots the Northern Irish, it should be noted) voted to leave the European Union.

This would be hilarious if this dangerous egomaniac wasn't the potential POTUS.

Wow such effrontery from someone who lives halfway across the world, someone who lives in an autonomous country, someone who isn't dictated to by a rag tag bunch of self styled, unelected sophisticates from 27 countries to make our laws and hand down directives, a dictatorship that has its own self interest in mind not that of the UK (or any other country bar except Germany and France). See what they've done to poor Greece and to a lesser extent Spain and Portugal.

Why doesn't Australia form a coalition with the likes of Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Malaysia, Philippines. Let them all get their heads together and make laws for you, force you to accept free movement and except hundreds of thousands of economic migrants.

Oh and pay millions of pounds A DAY for the priviledge.

All we wanted was to trade and to trade with the world not be hamstrung by the EU, not be dictated to and forced down paths not of our making.

It has become increasingly apparent that many Brits had no idea what they wanted.

Quote:
Brits start Googling 'what is the EU?' after Brexit referendum result is announced.

Quote:
The polls had long closed and the result had already been announced: the UK had opted out of the European Union in a landmark referendum.

It was only then that many of them bothered to try and find out what it was really all about.

"What is the EU?" is the second top UK question on the EU since the #EURefResults were officially announced pic.twitter.com/1q4VAX3qcm
— GoogleTrends (@GoogleTrends) June 24, 2016

Financial markets were reeling, EU leaders were scrambling for a response, David Cameron was resigning as prime minister and it seems many Britons may not have even known what they had voted for. (They really should have read our Explainer before they popped into the polls).

"Even though I voted to leave, this morning I woke up and I just – the reality did actually hit me," one woman told the news channel ITV News.

"If I'd had the opportunity to vote again, it would be to stay."

That confusion over what Brexit might mean for the country's economy appears to have been reflected across the UK on Thursday.

Google reported a sharp rise in searches not only related to the ballot itself, but also about basic questions concerning the implications of the vote.

Eight hours after the polls closed, Google reported that searches for "what happens if we leave the EU" had more than tripled.

Leave voter on BBC: "I'm shocked & worried. I voted Leave but didn't think my vote would count - I never thought it would actually happen."
— Laura Topham (@LauraTopham) June 24, 2016...

Your stock markets are already tanking, and affecting everyone else in the world.

You will lose priority access to European markets. This will affect both your exports and imports, so your cost of living will rise, but your earnings won't.

It will break up Great Britain as an entity. Within a few years Scotland will have another shot at independence, this time successful. And Northern Ireland will follow suit. Both Scotland and Northern Ireland voted to stay in the EU.

And I do believe I hear hysterical laughter coming from the general direction of Moscow. Between Brexit and Trump, Putin must think all his Christmases have come at once.

Well, from what I've been reading and hearing, you'll be getting that and a lot more into the bargain.

I understand that both the cosmopolitan city of London and Scotland voted 60/40 to stay, and that in Ireland Sean Fein is stirring the waters again over the amalgamation of the North into greater Ireland.

Ruling by plebiscite is a dangerous thing. Ignorance, fear and bigotry more often than not carry the day, and it appears that is exactly what has happened in this situation. And of a lot of you folks, I'm afraid, will live to rue the day.

The only markets 'tanking' are in Europe the UK market is now higher than a week ago. The pound will catch up too.

Whilst a few people are stupid on Google and TV I don't accept they affected the result.

Face it, Europe won't want to lose trade with the UK, we are among their most important customers. The only difference will be we will also be able to trade with the rest of the world unfettered by EU rules.

New trade agreements may take a while, also they may not, business people just want to make money.

There will be 'bumps' in the road, but we will get there. I really wonder if many people are afraid Britain will again become the world power it once was rather than just a small backwater of a failed United States of Europe.

I obviously have much more faith in my country's abilities than you do.

Funny how people from two countries where immigration is so slight always shout racism when people from countries where immigration is rife express concern.

This is not a RACE issue, it is a SPACE issue. Britain is full guys, no more room on board. We took last year net 330,000* new migrants. Our infrastructures are collapsing under the strain. The schools and hospitals are full to bursting, the are no more houses without desecrating our green belt areas to build more (even then we couldn't build them quick enough).

(* The actual number who came was nearer 600,000, but 270,000 also left - the demographic of leavers is not known).

PS: Did you know we are unable to deport known criminals and suspected terrorists because of EU Human Rights law. It is against their human rights or rights to family life !!! That is why it took us 8 years to deport Abu Hamza. TaxPayers' Alliance estimated that the father-of-eight Abu Hamza had so far cost Britain £2.75 million in welfare payments, council housing and legal costs. Unbelievable.

In a few years "Britain" will be England and Wales. Ireland will at long last be a united nation and the united Republic of Ireland together with independent Scotland will be back in the EU.

It is also worth noting that this is a decision imposed on young Britons by old fossils. Best estimates are that 57% of Britons aged under 34 voted to remain, (and these are the people most affected by the outcome) while the same proportion of Britons over 55 voted to leave.

Yes I'm one of those *old fossils* and as I have nothing to gain from voting out, I voted purely in the interests of my daughters future. A future which she and all voters can now dictate more easily on a local level rather than leave it up to the faceless bureaucrats in Brussels who do not have the UKs interests top of their agenda.

Bit of a dumbass thing to say The economic migrants come mostly from East Europe, Poland, Bulgaria, Hungary, not a turban or burqua in sight.

Of the so called refugees, these are mainly from Syria, Iraq, Somalia and Eritrea and are mostly young males wearing jeans, tee shirts and trainers (look at the images). Maybe they should've stayed home to fight for their country rather than desert it and their families.

Having both shown your combined ignorance I shall desist from posting here any more on this subject you know nothing about.

One last thing. Ask yourself "why does Canada have a strict immigration policy".

I think we could do with a bit less heat.

The fact is that the EU is also to blame with the situation because they have never properly represented the needs of their individual members.

Britain's vote to exit was also a grave mistake as they are finding out now. Already almost 3.5 million are asking for a revote. far more than enough to reverse the results.

London voted overwhelmingly to remain in the EU. Many people did not vote because all predictions were that the vote would be to remain an EU member.

What will happen now is that all international manufacturing companies will leave Britain because they can not survive without EU trade. Britain's economy will crash into a disastrous depression.

The British voters were lied to, were told that the money not paid to the EU would be reinvested in their financially failing medical insurance program. It will not be as is now admitted.

I have no doubt that if the Brexit vote was repeated today it would fail overwhelmingly in Britain which is only now realizing its mistake

The EU itself is on the verge of dissolving. France Greece and Italy will probably soon vote to leave.

The EU must become an actual United States of Europe, rather than a tool of Germany and Belgium. Individual states must be able to have more authority to control their needs and destinies. In short they must become more like the USA as a confederation of the willing, with a policy making group separate of from any of the member states.

And if the situation is not reversed, Great Britain also may well dissolve, as Scotland and Northern Ireland are talking independence. The Union Jack may look very different in a few years.

Spot on analysis

Quote:

The majority of voters disagree. It has already been shown a large number of respondents to this petition are faked or not from the UK. Even so the petition seeks to retrospectively change the terms of the referendum. It cannot succeed.

Quote:

No. There will have to be some readjustments to a different trading environment, but most major companies will not find it economically viable to upsticks and relocate. To kick off with at least it will be easier to sell their goods with a weaker pound. Also the EU trade with us at least as much as we trade with them. That will not change very much.

Quote:
The British voters were lied to, were told that the money not paid to the EU would be reinvested in their financially failing medical insurance program. It will not be as is now admitted.

We don't have medical insurance per se, it is a National Health Service paid for by central government out of taxes. We currently give the EU £18billion (yes BILLION) per year. This equates to the figure of £350million a week. But of this we get a rebate of £5b and the EU sends us another £4b to spend on what they say we should. This leaves a net payment each year of £9billion or £2,500,000 a DAY which get to keep to spend on what we want. Of course the lions share of that will go to the NHS, but some must obviously go to other previously EU funded concerns.

Quote:
I have no doubt that if the Brexit vote was repeated today it would fail overwhelmingly in Britain which is only now realizing its mistake

You can't call it a mistake after only two trading days. Even Rome wasn't built in a day.

Quote:

I agree if they carry on on the same course the EU will breakdown. It was formed from a flawed premise that all the nations were equal in terms of finances and culture. It can NEVER work the way it currently is and the UK appears to be well out of the implosion.

From what I understand, and feel free to correct me if I am mistaken, the referendum regarding the Brexit choice actually carries no legal weight. I understand that Parliament is free to ignore the results of the referendum and conduct affairs as they see fit. It may be political suicide (of that, I am not certain) but it appears it is certainly a strong possibility.

I believe that technically that is correct. I also agree that theoretically it could well be political suicide, but it's hard to see who would be left to suicide, since Cameron and Corbyn are both dead in the water.

But seriously, indications seem to be that particular scenario won't play out.

During the campaign, the Vote Leave campaign ran adverts, one of which said: “Let’s give our NHS the £350 million the EU takes every week”.

Earlier this month, a statement from leading Vote Leave campaigners including justice secretary Michael Gove, Conservative MP Boris Johnson and Labour's Gisela Stuart, said that if the country voted to leave the EU: “The government should use some of the billions saved from leaving the EU to give at least a £100m per week cash transfusion to the NHS.”

However, shortly after the referendum result, UK Independence Party (UKIP) leader Nigel Farage being interviewed on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, said the promise was a mistake and not a pledge he had given.

“No I can’t , and I would never have made that claim. That was one of the mistakes that I think the Leave campaign made,” he said.

Yeah and something he didn't bother correcting either until after the vote.Interesting to note hate crimes are up 57 % after the vote not really surprising given the leaves campaign on immigration.

It's a shame this thread strayed away from the original topic, which was Trump's awful press conference in Scotland. Yes, I do acknowledge that was largely my fault.

Paul. I wouldn't worry. I think Trump is getting far too much publicity of all kinds, and the less we hear about him the better. He will soon be lost back in his silly little world, and we can then move on. If he caused serious damage to the Republican party (and I think they pretty much had that under control without him), so much the better. Maybe the party will take some time to rethink the idiocy that their party has devolved to represent.

The Koch brothers are supporting Clinton! They know what side their bread is buttered on.

Not saying this is necessarily a good thing. But it does demonstrate just how completely Trump has fractured the Republican party.

There is a large and growing list of life long Republicans announcing that are voting for Clinton, including the billionaire former mayor of New York city Michael Bloomberg..

Here are some more of note:

I don't think it's so much a "which side their bread is buttered on" as much as it is a "We disagree with Hillary but can work with what she will do. Trump, though, is a total loose cannon who will cause massive financial problems worldwide."

They can deal with one (or two) terms of Hillary and ride it out. A Trump Presidency, though, might mean huge financial losses for them and that they're not willing to risk.
