"got a speeding ticket"

Well I got pull over on 405 north freeway doing 78 the officer also gave me the verbal warning for following to closely

Btw to those that are in California, chp cannot use radars on freeway, they must follow you. Was told that by the police officer that pulled me over for speeding so what are the chances of him not showing up? Should I just do extension on the court appearance for as long as I can or should I just find out when this vacation is and prolong the extension till he is on vacation?

ps this is near 101 north /south

Radical idea: you could pay the fine, considering you admit to the offence

I just heard that they just gave a huge amount of pink slips to the CHP. Unless they can find money to pay them, they're going to be laying them off. If the guy that gave you the ticket was younger you might get lucky. But you will have to put this off for, I believe, two and a half months to try to take advantage. By the way I'm not a lawyer, but never admit to anything, until after you have talked to a lawyer. The average speed of the 405, the last time I was down there, was about 75 m.p.h., if you had been going any slower you would be a vehicular hazard. Believe it or not that is a defense.

ye thhe guy was pretty young, the court day they gave me was 08/16/03. I can get it extended with no problem. Going to see if i can find info on what is the average speed on 405 and then mostlikely fight it. Will use written declaration, as if u lose using that you get another chances infront of the judge

Probably the same citizens that would bail out of the National Guard citing that they didn't sign up for a war! They must have picked on him cause of his green hair or something. I wonder if ylen will give me the officer's name so I can email him? Then again, I may not need it, wonder what mile marker that was hmmm.

What is wrong with being responsible with your own stupid actions and pay the fine. It is people like you that make me sick. Have you sued the movie people yet, that was your last lame plan?

Ed is right. I got stopped for speeding here on Florida and the Officer said, "I've been waiting for you all day." I told him, "I got here as fast as I could." After he stopped laughing he let me go. Heh, Heh, Heh

The CHP are better drivers than any other force in the country. The great thing about the CHP not using radar on the freeway (used to be anywhere) is that by tailing you, they have to observe your driving in total. If all you're doing is speeding, within reason, you'll probably never get a ticket. If they ticket you, and your speed was in context of the traffic flow, you can be fairly confident that your driving skill was judged inadequate for your speed.

It took about 10 years for them to finally ticket me, after many stops, and then the guy apologized for it. Actually, first he complimented me on my traffic skills, then apologized for giving me a ticket because 25 over in the open was just too much (he was also a motor officer, and writing tickets is pretty much all they do I think.)

What's the point? Maybe you should replay it in your mind, and see if there's something you can learn from it. A ticket from the CHP isn't like a ticket from anyone else. It's almost never mickey-mouse, and almost always justified.

Bob: I agree with everything you say. In 38 years of driving California freeways I have never witnessed (nor heard a story told)about a CHP doing something chicken s---. I wouldn't even think about trying to convince a judge that one had. I'd be willing to bet the cop was more upset about the crowding then he was the speeding. Running up someone's bumper is more apt to cause an accident then running a few miles an hour faster then traffic flow.

Edit: You posted while I was writing. It was the frequent lane change that got you nailed. You're lucky he didn't site that as a further offense. You go to court on that one, your apt to piss off the judge, and don't think for a moment that the officer won't bring it all up. Just because he only cited you for speeding doesn't mean he can't recall the entire incident while testifing to the court.....

yes he can recall that but I have no plan on going to court in front of the judge, I plan do it first by mail as if I lose I still have the chances to go then in front of the judge. So I get 2 tries instead of one. Also I will do at least 2 extension of the date so that his memory is not as great about the ticket and he can't look at me and remember what happened. Even do I did allot of lane changes all of them were with signal showing so that most likely why I only got ticket for speeding and verbal warning for following to closely

The funniest one I saw was these two girls, yakking away with each other. The driver never looked in her mirror, and hardly ever out the windshield. They were behind me when I saw the CHP well behind. I slowed a little and moved to the right lane while the girls stayed in the left.

If you don't know, what the CHP do to "warn" you is get right on your ass and stay there - no lights, just letting you know they're there. Back when they had those 440 Chryslers with those huge push-bars on the front, it was a pretty intimidating site

So I'm watching the CHP, and the girls, wondering what's going to happen. They're right next to me. He gets on their butt, no light, and I swear he sat there for about two miles. They never looked back in all that time. You could see the poor cop's exasperation when he finally pulled them over. Not because they were speeding, but because they were speeding, and so utterly clueless that they didn't notice this thoroughly intimidating presence literally filling their mirrors for so long it was just silly.

1) i was doing change lane even do alot of traffi was doing around 75 i was kind of pushing.
2) i was tailgating a car in front of me
3)my car has no plates

If I ever drive in California I don't want to be sharing the roads with anyone who drives like that and thinks it's somehow OK, and that you can keep doing it by just showing up at a court hearing to make it go away. You were driving like a jerk, and it looks like the CHP was doing what the taxpayers pay him to do.

When is that court date?

i know why i got pulled over and it more then 1 reason.

1) i was doing change lane even do alot of traffi was doing around 75 i was kind of pushing.
2) i was tailgating a car in front of me
3)my car has no plates

with all of thos reason mostlikely is why i got pulled over.If i just stayd in one lane and pushed 78 mostlikely he woudn't pulled me as freeway was pretty empty on sunday night.

as for why not just pay it, well why pay for something when you have a chances of getting out of it. One my friend jus told me that alot of them will be losing a job soon and that chances are he could be one of them, also if i fight the ticket by mail chances are 50/50 he will not responde as he don't get paid over time for doing desk work.

What makes you think cops don't get paid overtime for court dates and desk work?
At least around here they do. My nephews love getting to sit in the air conditioned court room getting paid big bucks and not having people show up. They get paid the same whether they are on a beat or on a desk.

I was ticketed for speeding and I could've got out of it. There was no speed limit posted from where I turned onto the road and where I was pulled over. A video would've shown that. And the speed limit was below standard for the type of area.
But I paid the fine even though it was a speed trap type deal because I WAS SPEEDING!!!
Take responsibility for your actions.

I hope they catch on to your game and give you contempt of court. There is a difference between using the system because of need and abusing the system to beat the rap.

correct they get paid for work done but usually the court date is on there day off so they get paid ovetime for all of the time they are in court. Cops hate doing more paperwork then they have to plus judge hate paperwork also as its much more work him.

Whether they hate it or not, it's their job and they know they have to do it.
Some would actually rather do the paper work than having to deal with the dregs of society.

IMHO, I agree with Ed, which is starting to happen so often I'm wondering if he doesn't have some sort of mind control device implanted in my brain.. I'll start wearing aluminum hats from now on.

Be thankful that you were not tailgating my car, I would have slammed on my brakes, watched your car crumple into a shape resembling a silver dollar pancake, then laughed as you're insurance paid to have my car repaired (you have any idea how much a rear bumper alone costs on my car, including the chroming process?). Then probably laugh some more when your insurance skyrocketed.

Be thankful that the cop stopped you, you were driving like an asshole, and you deserve to get a ticket. Consider it a learning experience, if you have the balls to admit you fucked up. There's nothing wrong with making mistakes and paying for them, I respect people who can say "yeah, I shouldn't have done that, I screwed up, but I paid for it dearly and learned my lesson" more than a person who says "man, I can't believe I got caught, I'm gonna slip my way out of it".

Why run into a building that is on fire to save someone when you can just watch it burn?

You ever see a Geo Storm hit the back of a Ford Thunderbird? I was in the T-Bird, the guy in the Geo ended up on top of our roof. All because he was driving too fast, too close, and didn't realize that we were coming up on a light.

Just because you have driven 130 doesn't mean that its safe, especially since not everyone has the same skills you think you have.

I have lived here in Los Angeles all my life (im 60) and the freeway im almost always on is the 405. I never travel faster then 70mph. I always have a least 1 car length for every 10mph im driving. I also keep lane changing down to a minimum. Guess what, I have never had a ticket on any freeway. Now thats how to beat a traffic ticket not your way. Wiseguy

yes i know i got them in the mail but was to lazy to put them one. Also it easier that way to avoid parking ticket if you pull over were u can so that parking enforce can't just write down your plate whille you are driving away and waywing to her. Guess i got really expensive parking ticket

So basically, your goal in life is to see what you can legally get away with so you can coast along without any responsibilities? I'd suck it up and pay the dues if it were me. (But that's just me.) Someday, hopefully, you'll grow up and realize that there's no real future in trying to beat the law. Do you have any personal integrity or responsibility at all, and is this the sort of thing you want to teach your kids? Let's see what we can get away with next?

I'm only 22, but I'm well aware that if I knowingly break the law I'll have to pay for it. I also realise that life is delicate. I drive around 25000 miles a year, and see more serious accidents than I want to. Every one makes me sick. Many were caused by people having too much faith in their own abilities, and resulted in someone innocent losing their life.
Could you justify yourself if you killed someone while doing 130? Even if you just wrote off my car by rear-ending me?
If you're tailgating and I have to brake, you won't even realise you're going to hit me. You don't have superhuman abilities behind the wheel. You'll just feel the smack and wake up dazed a few moments later, wondering what happened.

I visit a High School Wrestling discussion board (my son wrestles) and they occasionally get jokers making obnoxious posts just for the reaction. That is what this reminded me of since the movie post (ridiculous statements and obvious misspelling of words). It is somewhat expected on a high school board, it surprised me on here.

Edited due to obvious misspelling of a word

Where I live, it's pretty well known that there's generally a 5 mph "cushion" or leeway given for possible differences in speedometer readings. So, if the posted limit is 75 and you go 80, chances are pretty good that you won't get pulled over. However, if you do anything over 80, your'e probably pushing your luck, and you'd better be prepared to pay up!

So, I'm not saying that I never *push the speed limit, but I'm also prepared to take the consequences if an officer decides to stop me. It's the "taking responsibility for your own actions" thing that I'm getting at.

As for racing & taking your car to 130Mph & above, have you considered taking it to a track or an abandoned stretch? If I really feel the need for speed, I take it to one of the local race tracks or enter in some bracket races, which is a LOT safer than the streets where you are endangering other people's lives.

People like you make me sick. Your an idiot. You break the law, you get caught, and all you want to do is find a "loophole". Do you EVER take responsibility for any of your actions, or just try and hide from it? It's people like you that make the highways unsafe. Follow me that close sometime, you won't be able to miss me, i'll be the one you just ran into, and the one breaking your jaw for doing it.

well i personally hope you were not the person who i passed on a left cleanly with alot of spacce on canyon road that then passed me a rigth and wanted to fight me. It was 4 of us against 1 of him lucky his wife was in the car told him not to do it. People on the road today have a little problem and its they feel they should take the law in their hands. If you are in fast lane and you see a car behind you comming up fast and you are able to do safe lane change to right the easist, safiest and smartest thing to do is move over and let the person that is going fast pass you.

in the earlier situation I was wrong and shouldn't have passed him on left plus he had a child in his car, my friends were in the car so I decided to show up and lucky for both of it, the situation ended peaceful.

Back to my ticket situation, I talk to a CHP who is my neighbor. His advice was to do the mail plea and see what happens; if you lose you can always then appeal and go in front of the judge. If you lose in front of the judge, then if a judge can he will sentence me to traffic school. Chances of the officer not showing up are 50/50, plus his advice to me is to call CHP office and find out the vacation date of the officer as its public information and they must tell me.

Ylen is just as his name says....13 years old. His history of posting consistantly shows he has no respect for this country and it's laws, and he has failed to show any common sense at all. He can't write a complete sentence in English, or is too damn lazy to do it. He is exactly what is wrong with this country today.

A total waste to spend any more time with as he has a totally empty skull, except for the hot air it is filled with. A mommies boy who will never amount to anything, certainly NOT a man.

When you end up smashed in an accident, it will be the other innocent driver and passengers that will suffer, you will NOT be missed.

When I was 22, I was in boot camp learning why I should have honor, courage, and commitment, something that is apparantly missing from his life. I'm still learning, but at the very least I make the fucking effort. Ylen, you should change your user name to Y-learn or Y-bother, because you obviously don't care about anybody but yourself.

With all the attacks in this thread that make my post seem mild, just why did you choose to attack me? What gives you the right to call me a snob, or condescending, based upon what I wrote? Perhaps you should take a good look in the mirror. Your post calls your own maturity into question.

i have driven in some places at 130

my car has no plates

...i got them in the mail but was to lazy to put them one.
...didn't put them on because the car is only a month and 10 days told
Also it easier that way to avoid parking ticket if you pull over were u can so that parking enforce can't just write down your plate whille you are driving away and waywing to her. Guess i got really expensive parking ticket
...unless he witness me breaking the law there is not much he can do

why pay for something when you have a chances of getting out of it.
Someone should show this shit to your parents. Your own words show that you drive and act and think like an asshole. I have no doubt that you probably endangered the lives of that guy and his family and that's why he was pissed. Grow up before you take someone out. Jason should ID this guy to the authorities in his city.

If you fill out your tickets like you wrote your post, your perps will walk every time. You can't be a cop, cops have to be able to communicate in court

fill/file
accendent/accident
hopping /hoping

Whoa ...come on!

Wow! Did ylen13 ever fire up this crowd. It seems to me that he is baiting everyone on. He openly admits to the charges, and has the gall to think he is right and challenges everyone who responds to him. One day (I hope) he will get what is coming to him - without the loss of life or injury to others.

There is not talking common sense, decency and accountability to someone who has an attitude as he has. He seems to take pride in offending - and just plain pissing everone off.

I read this thread with the same anger at his arrogance as everyone else did. But, I believe that this is exactly as he wanted. He has acheived his goal. We all get to go to bed thinking what an assh**l he is. And he gets to go to bed laughing at everyone who thinks he is such an idiot. And to all those who keep posting to this thread challanging him - he just adds another post, firing everyone up again. People like this are just a plain waste of energy.

...Just my 2 cents worth, of course.

What do you mean you are a cop for next year, dose it means you are not a cop now and will become one in 2004? Also I would love to be in a car with you while you are on duty. Always wanted to see what cops really go thru while they are on patrol.

You seem to have maturity and age mixed up. Maturity does not automatically come with age--that's what these people have been trying to tell you. See it even shows immaturity when you relate them.

Just because you have not had an accident while driving the way you have described does not mean that you are a very good driver. It simply means that you have been very lucky.

Accepting responsibility for your actions and paying the consequences is a part of being a mature person. Judging from your posts here, it looks like you have quite a ways to go before you reach maturity Bud Good Luck, you are going to need it if you continue on your present path.

Here's some useful advice for you when you next get stopped:

Things Not to Say to a Police Officer:

I can't reach my license unless you hold my beer.
Sorry, Officer, I didn't realize my radar detector wasn't plugged in.
Hey, you must've been doin' about 130 mph to keep up with me. Good job!
I thought you had to be in relatively good physical condition to be a police officer.
You're not gonna check the trunk, are you?
I pay your salary!
Gee, Officer! That's terrific. The last officer only gave me a warning, too!
Do you know why you pulled me over? Okay, just so one of us does.
I was trying to keep up with traffic. Yes, I know there are no other cars around. That's how far ahead of me they are.
When the Officer says "Gee Son...Your eyes look red, have you been drinking?" You probably shouldn't respond with, "Gee Officer your eyes look glazed, have you been eating doughnuts?"
