FYI: I just found out that TNT will air the Lord of the Rings trilogy beginning on December 10, Friday, Saturday & Sunday. I rarely tape anything nor do i even own a single DVD movie. But this is probably one of the best trilogies I have ever seen on the big screen and will probably record it on my VCR.
If you really liked it spring for the extended versions on DVD. They are worth the money. About an hour and a half of additional movie over the three films.
I STRONGLY endorse that. I have seen the first film in the theater, and then in the "platinum" (extended) version on DVD, and the second film only in the extended version. The extended version is WELL worth waiting (and paying) for. I have been waiting for a LONG time for the third installment (refusing to see it in the theaters), and will be lining up on December 14th for it. It's the best trilogy EVER, and I'm no kid. I'm a senior citizen, and these films are magnificent.

I too am waiting for the extended version of the Lord Of The Rings, Return Of The King" but I am a little confused as to which version of it to buy. One version is supposed to have 5 DVD disks and another version of the same movie has only 4 DVD disks. Yet they both claim to be the extended version. Has anyone any info on this?
Hmmm, that confuses ME, too. The movies ARE quite long, and come on 2 DVDs. Any other disks would contain trailers, the history of the making of the film, interviews, commentary, yada yada. I don't care about any of this stuff, but it came with the package, 4 DVDs in all for each of the first two films. It's possible the third film, in its extended version, comes on 3 DVDs, along with the two bonus disks. Maybe. If the package says New Line Cinema and states that it is the "Special Extended DVD Edition" that's the one you want, no matter how many disks are in it.
All of the movies have two extended versions. The Platinum Series which has four DVD's, two for the movie and two with extra features. Then there is the Collectors Gift Set which is the same as the Platinum Series plus a fifth DVD. For The Fellowship of the Ring it is "National Geographic DVD, Beyond the Movie: The Lord of the Rings". For The Return of the King it is a program of concerts featuring the music from the movie. I can't remember what was in The Two Towers one though.

Based on the enthusiastic recommendations, I just might buy the DVD set someday when I become gainfully employed again. And you're right flmcg, the trilogy will go down as perhaps the best ever made in movie Hx.
