I have always assumed someone might be listening and I love to give them an earful while on hold.

I can just imagine it now: "You scum-sucking, pseudo-democratic pinko commies! I'll teach you to listen on private conversations!"

Anyone desperatly seeking boredom will find it by listening to me while I'm on hold. I never was in the habit of talking to myself.

I don't talk to myself either (not yet anyways ) Shelly . But what concerns me more is the fact that someone in India or Britain gets your personal info ( passwords , your addy and more ) I always knew that I was being taped , but I assumed that it was just by the company I was trying to reach .

Here's an example. When you need to call Bell repair services here when your phone is out, you get this annoying interactive voice menu. It's so silly, it says something like "now, tell me what it is that you want" and you're supposed to say "repair" or "customer service" or whatever which leads to the next irritating voice menu.

However, if you scream "give me a fucking human!" or something similar you won't believe how fast you'll get a representative on the phone. Automated speech analysis that picks up on the words fuck, human or person? Or is someone monitoring and reacting to your hysterics? I had assumed the former, but this thread made me think about it.

I've known this (and used it!) for quite sometime. When I'm on hold with Hartford Insurance to find out why they are
cancelling my policy for non-payment when I didn't even get a bill from them, (happens every other month or so...and
ONLY with Hartford!) I will yell to my wife, "Okay, if they don't get their act together at Hartford we're going back to AAA"...
shortly after that a Supervisor will come on the line...and voila! the problem is solved. Hm-m-m-m-m..........yep....they're listening.

Well dosnt surprise me. More and more and more there are new ways to ease drop and monitor people in almost every area of life.

I see cameras positioned on top pf street traffic lights watching intersections. Every place I go and buy something they always ask me for a phone number or address. (I never give in buy the way)

Email addresses and contact information are being shared, bought and sold from one company to the next. Its crazy... the obsession the world has about accumulating data about other people.

Dumpster diving, phone tapping, spyware its endless.
Sometimes I think it would be best to just go way up into the woods and
live a simple life in a shack hut someplace and live a simple
life. Just me and some books... and not much else.

Butt then I couldnt play HL2
and that would be aweful.

ha ha
