"TV is broken!"

The picture stays near the top and after about 30 seconds, the picture goes away (completely, and the screen is totally black), but the audio keeps going. So now I have a radio that broadcasts tv shows. Nothing has been done different between the previous day and the day it went crazy. It was actually working in the morning. The tv is about...2-3 years old. Anyone have an idea what the problem is before going to the repair shop?

Your vertical deflection amplifier is probably bad and after a while taking down the horizontal circuit and high voltage supply.

Un less this is a large valuable TV, you might be better off thinking about a new set. Especially if the deflection yoke shorted.
